Celebrities often talk about using their platform to raise awareness on topics and issues that matter. On September 21, on the anniversary of the Martial Law declaration by President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in 1972, these celebrities joined the nation in condemning government corruption.

Aside from their talent, grit, and sacrifices, another key factor that catapulted celebrities to stardom is the unwavering support of fans and the masses—those who consume their work, buy their endorsed products, and rally behind their influence.

Now, these stars are stepping off the stage and screens, joining thousands of Filipinos in protest. From the People Power Monument along EDSA to Rizal Park in Manila, celebrities marched hand in hand with their supporters to denounce corruption in flood control projects.

Leading the charge was none other than the “Unkabogable Star” Vice Ganda, who took center stage at the People Power Monument during the Trillion Peso March. With her trademark candor, Vice didn’t just air frustrations—she boldly threw down a challenge to President Bongbong Marcos Jr.

“Hinahamon ka namin Pangulong Bongbong Marcos, kung gusto mong magkaroon ng magandang legasiya ang pangalan mo, ipakulong mo lahat ng magnanakaw!” the It’s Showtime host declared.

Vice went further, emphasizing that it’s the Filipino people who are essentially the ones paying the President’s salary, reminding him of his duty to serve.

“Inaasahan ka namin hindi dahil sa idol ka namin kundi dahil siniswelduhan ka namin at inaasahan namin na tutuparin mo ang inuutos naming mga employer mo! Kami ang nagpapasahod sa inyo,” she added.

And aside from Vice Ganda, several other celebrities also attended the rallies against the flood control project corruption.

It's Showtime Hosts

Other familiar faces from It’s Showtime also joined the September 21 rallies, including Ion Perez, Darren Espanto, Jackie Gonzaga, Anne Curtis, and her sister Jasmine Curtis.

On Instagram, Anne reflected on the day with a powerful message of hope:

“With fire in our hearts and love for the Philippines in our souls, we marched. May this be the generation that breaks the chains of corruption— It must end. What was stolen was never theirs to keep, but ours to build the Philippines we love and the future we deserve… I pray our children inherit a nation honest, thriving, and worthy of their dreams,” she wrote.

For Darren, with a banner screaming that Filipinos have had enough, the protest was all about standing up for the country.

Meanwhile, Jasmine also used her social media platform to highlight the struggles of students, saying, “Our students deserve better leaders—struggle na nga ang access to quality education, struggle pa sa karamihan ang maabot ang eskwelahan nila.”

Veteran Actresses

Off-screen, seasoned actresses Jodi Sta. Maria, Angel Aquino, Iza Calzado, and Tessie Tomas turned their platforms into a stage for advocacy, as they joined the rally at Rizal Park, Manila, voicing out their frustrations over alleged corruption in flood control projects and demanding accountability from officials involved.

Veteran star Tessie Tomas, who has a degree in broadcasting from the University of the Philippines, made a bold remark as she congratulated student leaders and demonstrators who protested in front of the residence of the Discayas, the family at the center of the controversy.

Jodi Sta. Maria also took the mic, reminding the crowd of their collective power as Filipinos. “Ngayon, lahat tayo nandito dahil lahat tayo ay Pilipino. Bilang Pilipino, may karapatan tayo—ang bawat isa—na alamin [ang lahat ng bagay] pagdating sa pera, sitwasyon ng ating bahay,” she declared.

She then added, “Ang importante sa’kin ay dapat may managot, hindi p'wede wala.”

Meanwhile, Angel Aquino, a former student activist from the University of the Philippines–Baguio, echoed the people’s anger while underscoring the need for vigilance.

“Naiitindihan ko ang galit natin lahat pero mas importanteng bantayan ang kilos nila. Mas importante maging vigilant sa pagbabantay para hindi na nila gawin ang ginagawa nila,” she said.

Iza Calzado, who is also one of the founders of SheTalks Asia, participated in the rallies. Taking the stage, she said in a speech, "Napakasayang makita na magkakasama tayo ngayon kahit na umuulan, malayo ang pinanggalingan, kahit basang-basa, kahit traffic, puyat, pagod, ang iba ay gutom. Masaya dahil nagtitipon tayo dahil nais natin magpahayag ng galit. Nais nating humingi ng katarungan. Nais nating maningil. Nais nating papanagutin ang dapat managot. Paano nga ba tayo humantong dito? Paulit-ulit na lang. Paulit-ulit na lang. At palala nang palala nang palala. Mananahimik pa rin ba tayo?"

Celebrities Who Ran for a Cause

Celebrities like Dingdong Dantes, Kim Atienza, Benjamin Alves, Kim Molina, and Jerald Napoles turned their usual running routine into a powerful statement yesterday, hitting the streets not just for fitness but for a cause. Wearing bold statement shirts, the stars joined the rallies to call out corruption and push for change.

For Kapuso star Dingdong Dantes, last Sunday’s run was more than just a workout—it became a statement of hope for a corruption-free Philippines.

"Not our usual Sunday run. Today, our small community gathered not just for distance, but with prayer and intention. We hoped. We dreamed. For a corrupt-free Philippines. For accountability from those who have stolen from us. And for those attending the big rallies, we lifted them up in prayer as well. We each have different ways of expressing our grievances and hopes. Today, this was ours," he wrote in an Instagram post.

Meanwhile, Kim Molina declared her solidarity with Filipinos, posting, “Nakikiisa sa bawat Pilipinong nasusugatan at handa ng lumaban.”

As for Benjamin Alves, he made his message crystal clear—“enough is enough.”

In his post, he wrote, "A peaceful yet passionate cry for our government to do better for her people. To fight for the poor and those in need. To have no person left behind because of greed. Ipaglaban natin sila. Ipaglaban natin ang isa’t isa. Paano ba mahalin ang Pilipinas? Start with her people."

Filipino Beauty Queens

Staying true to the advocacies they once championed on the pageant stage, several Filipino beauty queens were also spotted taking their causes to the streets. Among those who joined the rallies were Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Miss Grand International 2016 first runner-up Nicole Cordoves, and Miss Philippines Earth 2025 Joy Barcoma.

Early birds at the rallies were quickly spotted, and among them were today’s generation of stars—Donny Pangilinan, Maris Racal, Andrea Brillantes, and Elijah Canlas.

Donny not only joined the rallies, but he also maximized his social media presence, writing, "The shift has begun. The Filipinos are awake. The fight isn’t over, but one day it will be worth it. Tama na. Ikulong na ang mga magnanakaw. Ibalik ang pera ng taumbayan," with the hashtags #TrillionPesoMarch #BahaSaLuneta.

Maris fired up the crowd as she grabbed the megaphone and led chants with a fierce speech.

Andrea, meanwhile, took to Instagram to share her thoughts, writing, “Hindi madali, pero importante. Nandito tayo. Walang makakalimot! At sana, ‘wag lang po hanggang social media.”

As for Elijah, who has been consistent in using his platform to push advocacies and raise awareness, he made a bold statement, "Tama na sobra na. Ikulong na. Lahat ng kasangkot dapat managot."

The actress also poured out her frustration in a heartfelt Instagram post: “Watching the hearings, I couldn’t help but remember the messages and news of people begging for help. Families with homes washed away, parents who lost their work, lives lost to floods/typhoons. Naiiyak ako sa galit. kasi pwede pa lang hindi sila naghirap. Pwede pa lang walang nasaktan. She then added, “Ang importante sa’kin ay dapat may managot, hindi p'wede wala.”

Meanwhile, Angel Aquino, a former student activist from the University of the Philippines–Baguio, echoed the people’s anger while underscoring the need for vigilance.

“Naiitindihan ko ang galit natin lahat pero mas importanteng bantayan ang kilos nila. Mas importante maging vigilant sa pagbabantay para hindi na nila gawin ang ginagawa nila,” she said.

Celebrities Who Ran for a Cause

For Kapuso star Dingdong Dantes, last Sunday’s run was more than just a workout—it became a statement of hope for a corruption-free Philippines.

Meanwhile, Kim Molina declared her solidarity with Filipinos, posting, “Nakikiisa sa bawat Pilipinong nasusugatan at handa ng lumaban.”

As for Benjamin Alves, he made his message crystal clear—“enough is enough.”

Meanwhile, reigning Miss Philippines Earth Joy Barcoma echoed the call for change, declaring, “Hindi tayo ang dapat matakot sa gobyerno. Gobyerno ang dapat matakot sa mga Pilipino.”

Early birds at the rallies were quickly spotted, and among them were today’s generation of stars—Donny Pangilinan, Maris Racal, Andrea Brillantes, and Elijah Canlas.

Maris fired up the crowd as she grabbed the megaphone and led chants with a fierce speech.

Andrea, meanwhile, took to Instagram to share her thoughts, writing, “Hindi madali, pero importante. Nandito tayo. Walang makakalimot! At sana, ‘wag lang po hanggang social media.”

As for Elijah, who has been consistent in using his platform to push advocacies and raise awareness, he made a bold statement, "Tama na sobra na. Ikulong na. Lahat ng kasangkot dapat managot."
