Behind the memorable character is Jorrybell Agoto, who, much like Isabel, has a story of her own that mirrors some aspects of the role while setting her apart in many ways.</p><p>Despite the attention she&#39;s been getting for this milestone project, speaking with the actress felt like a breath of fresh air. Like the stories of many aspiring artists from the provinces, the 31-year-old Ilokano native had to leave behind the life she knew in Ilocos to chase her dream in Manila.</p><p>&ldquo;<em>Ako talaga. Alam mo &#39;yun ang&nbsp;</em>weird<em>&nbsp;kasi hindi talaga siya &#39;yung</em> typical n<em>a pangarap ng isang bata talaga sa probinsya, parang</em> far-fetched <em>siya na pangarap talaga na alam mo &#39;yung sobrang layo niya</em>, like <em>sa&nbsp;</em>geography, <em>malayo ang</em> Ilocos <em>sa&nbsp;</em>Manila. So,<em>&nbsp;ganun siya kalayo din kung paano tinitingnan &#39;yung pag-aartista</em>,&rdquo; Jorrybell shared when asked who pushed her to believe in her dream.</p><p>She then emphasized, &ldquo;From scratch<em>&nbsp;talaga ako</em>, from my own sweat and blood.&rdquo;</p><p>From there, Jorrybell&rsquo;s career began to steadily take shape. While it may seem like she was born to portray the character, landing the breakthrough role required her to go through an extensive audition process that began in 2019.</p><p>The audition was among the most intense Jorrybell had experienced, particularly during the final callback. Instead of a traditional audition where actors are immediately asked to perform, the candidates were given nearly an hour to simply talk and get to know each other. Ang&nbsp;</em>interesting<em>,</em> as in<em>&nbsp;nag-uusap lang kami, tapos parang hindi ko napapansin na&nbsp;</em><em>may&nbsp;</em>camera <em>pala</em>,&rdquo; Jorrybell recalled.</p><p>She initially auditioned for the short-film version of <em>Filipi&ntilde;ana</em>, eventually reprising the role for the feature-length film. Still, when she first learned that she had landed the role in the short film, Jorrybell admitted that she was completely caught off-guard.</p><p>At the time, her only onscreen acting experience was in another short film. Tapos &#39;yun, sobrang ngarag ako,&nbsp;</em>feeling<em>&nbsp;ko, hindi ako makukuha kasi&nbsp;</em>as in<em>&nbsp;sobrang ngarag na ngarag &#39;yung mukha ko,</em>&rdquo; she revealed.</p><p>Little did Jorrybell know that the role would mark the beginning of a new chapter in her acting career&mdash;and eventually earn her the reputation of being an <strong>&ldquo;indie darling</strong>.<strong>&rdquo;</strong></p><p>For Jorrybell, however, the &ldquo;indie darling&rdquo; label is something she embraces rather than sees as limiting. More than the recognition, she sees her growing platform as an opportunity to bring Filipino stories closer to a wider audience, including the stories of the characters she portrays in films like <em>Filipi&ntilde;ana</em>.</p><p>&ldquo;There&#39;s nothing to be ashamed of for me, at least,<em>&nbsp;na ganito &#39;yung mga&nbsp;</em>role <em>n</em><em>a nakukuha ko kasi mini-</em>mirror <em>niya &#39;yung&nbsp;</em>current <em>na&nbsp;</em>societal condition. There&#39;s nothing bad about it.
