20+ Celebrities Who Inspired Us On International Women's Day
Happy International Women's Day!
Celebrations for International Women's Day may be coming to a close this week, but the advancement of gender parity and the push for women's rightful places in social, economic, cultural, and political settings will continue long after they've ended.
The special holiday, which has been celebrated since the 1990s, isn't credited to a single founder or organization, but rather, is the result of a collective effort of both women and men from all over the world who believe in the fundamental principles of human rights, dignity, and equality.
Awareness of International Women's Day, as well as the movements and advocacies born out of it, have significantly increased throughout the years with female personalities and ordinary citizens alike showing their support. These women have positively influenced others to follow suit, acknowledging the need to inspire change in the way women are perceived and treated as well as their ability to empower fellow women to believe in themselves.
For your dose of meaningful girl power and inspiration for the weekend, check out this list of celebrities that celebrated International Women's Day:

I've already said a million times how much my Nana has influenced my life as a woman but I'm not sure if I've ever shared that I had to BEG her to take this picture!! ??She was a woman determined to have her OWN career as an RN at Harlem Hospital in 1952 the year her first son was born (my father). She studied hard & made it real. She was a single mom. Later, she married an Italian- American grocer (my grandfather) who in 1967 had a fruit & veggie stand in Harlem which surely wasn't the easiest storm to weather at that time in America. When he moved them to the suburbs of Long Island she had to get used to it because the house he bought her was smaller than her Harlem apt. she paid for on her OWN ??But u know behind all strong men there's an even stronger woman. She always stood by him. She had such a generous heart & shared that home w/ 2 beautiful twin foster children who she then adopted. This is the soul she was & the soul that’s been infused inside of me.She was the most compassionate, intelligent & kind advocate anyone could dream to have. She taught me everything about how to be a woman in the world. How to be both gentle & tough. How to demand respect by your stance & how to be independent yet co-dependent on those you love so reciprocity can be real! She always made me do reading & writing homework throughout the summers I stayed with her! ?? She is one of the biggest reasons why I know intelligence is power!! So although the world still has a long way to go to make gender equality a reality, for woman to get the same pay, respect and opportunities as our male counterparts, and to ensure that education is as important for every girl EVERYWHERE, I have to say that because of this woman(and my Mother)I NEVER felt like I was inferior, or less capable or less intelligent.I knew from the minute I was born that women are the greatest gifts to humanity for without us, there would be nothing. So thank u Nana for taking this picture so I can always remember what u stood for, how much you’ve given to our family & how much u have meant to me!! #InternationalWomensDay #family #women #progress #love
It’s #InternationalWomensDay. There was a time not long ago that women couldn’t vote, or open credit cards without their husband’s signature, or compete in the Olympics, or do their jobs without being harassed. That time is up. #TimesUp— Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) March 8, 2018
#internationalwomensday #strongisthenewpretty. As a mother and a woman, this is the most beautiful book I have seen in years. Run out, buy it for your daughter, your sister or a girlfriend. It is so powerful and a perfect brand of #girlpower. It has given me a tool for my daughters and I cannot thank @katetparker enough! You are an inspiration and a leader of a movement for us parents and our daughters to see others and ourselves in the greatest way! Please let’s collaborate one day!

“At this very moment girls and women are leading movements for education and equality around the world. At this very moment survivors of violence, harassment and discrimination are coming forward and pushing for justice. At this very moment voices silenced for too long are being heard.” — Malala Happy #IWD2018 to courageous girls and women around the world.
