Metro.Style's Year-Ender List: All The Celebrity Weddings We Loved In 2018
2018 was full of headlines of every kind, but one thing it was defined by was the number of memorable celebrity weddings we'll be drawing inspiration from for years to come.
Since number 8 symbolizes infinity, it was believed that getting married in 2018 would bring the couple lots of luck and love. And so, destination weddings, intimate gatherings, secret ceremonies, and receptions boasting of every imaginable theme were aplenty this year, which we're sharing with you in this comprehensive list of celebrity weddings in 2018.
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra
This Bollywood meets Hollywood celebration of love was arguably one of most epic weddings we saw all year. Bringing together Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra and singer Nick Jonas, these India-based nuptials were a mix of Hindu and Christian tradition and cost at least half a million dollars to execute.
The special day saw this bride and groom complete a series of Hindu pre-wedding rituals, go through multiple outfit changes, perform choreographed numbers onstage, and say "I do" twice in two separate ceremonies. Let's also not forget the fact that Priyanka walked down the aisle in a stunning Ralph Lauren gown with four men carrying her 75-foot long veil with her, making their wedding a major item in 2018's best fashion moments.
Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia
Bringing us all the way to Africa and Thailand, then to Hong Kong and Quezon, the Crawford-Garcia wedding was full of amazing travel highlights. After all, traveling was what eventually solidified the bond between these two who made sure their love for globetrotting would shine bright on their big day.
However, in the weeks leading up to their wedding, Billy and Coleen caused quite a stir with one of their pre-wedding shoots done in Ethiopia. The images sparked a massive nationwide debate, but even so, the criticism couldn't dampen this couple's beautiful Gideon Hermosa-designed wedding at Balesin Island Club one bit.
Rob Mananquil and Maxene Magalona
After getting engaged on Valentine's Day in 2017 during a romantic trip to Japan, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony held at the elegant Shangri-La's Boracay Resort & Spa last January.
The much-awaited beach wedding wowed guests as it was styled by popular event stylist Teddy Manuel in immaculate white and dainty cream to create the perfect backdrop for a Boracay sunset.
Maxene was a vision in a simple, figure-hugging iconic Vera Wang gown that featured a low back, subtle sweetheart neckline, and a delicate veil trimmed in lace.
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin
It was the union that made everyone's jaws drop collectively.
Shocking the world with their whirlwind wedding, on-and-off couple Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin tied the knot in September, keeping most of the details of their extremely low-key ceremony private. Even the most ardent of Bieber-Baldwin fans were unsure of the news' authenticity until the Biebs himself posted a photo on Instagram and called the model "his wife" in the caption two months after.
Rumor has it that although Justin and Hailey were legally wedded at a New York City court house, the two are still planning a religious ceremony to happen sometime next year.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk
A wedding becomes extra special when it incorporates the bride and groom's biggest passions. Such was the case at this ceremony that saw Oscar-winning actress, Goop founder, and fitness enthusiast Gwyneth Paltrow exchange "I dos" with TV producer Brad Falchuk.
Everything about that day was a reflection of this bride's love for clean, healthy living. The menu of organic dishes played a huge part in setting the tone for the evening, while the al fresco venue with rustic charm, her fuss-free hairstyle and makeup, simple wedding dress, and intimate guest list completed the special occasion.
Martine Cajucom and Cliff Ho
When a creative director as original and artistic as Martine Cajucom gets married, you can be sure that the result will be nothing but gorgeous—and boy was her Bali-based ceremony exactly that!
Bringing together her closest friends and family to one of Southeast Asia's most picturesque destinations, this blushing bride and Metro Weddings cover girl made sure everything about her big day would be thoughtfully put together.
From the event's sunset and dusty rose palette, to her hilarious wedding hashtag (#MartineIsAHo), amazing welcome dinner party, bouquet, pink Marchesa welcome dinner number and Rosa Clara wedding gown, Sunnies Face pout, bridesmaid ensembles, reception activities, and post-wedding travel treats for her entourage, this wedding-slash-Indonesian adventure is one we're keeping pinned to our mood board, indefinitely.
Federico Lucia and Chiara Ferragni
Dubbed as the "Italian royal wedding," the Lucia-Ferragani nuptials were exactly as grand as it sounds.
Choosing Sicily, Italy as their wedding venue, the fashion blogger and rapper impressed their guests from start to finish. Chiara's success as a digital influencer allowed her to partner with brands for her wedding, including Prada for her sparkly welcome dinner dress, Dior for her wedding gown, reception dresses, and shoes, Alitalia for her air travels, Alberta Ferretti for her designer bridesmaid dresses, and Pomellato for wedding bands.
Don't even get us started on the reception which was a full-on carnival compelete with rides, game booths, and prizes inspired by the couple. You'll have to see photos from the event to believe it.
Aljur Abrenica and Kylie Padilla
This bride wanted an unconventional touch to her wedding décor and a larger-than-life entrance to mark her walk down the aisle—which was exactly what she got. There were no immaculate whites and ivories here, but rather, a smoke machine, sweeping reds, onyx blacks, and a ton of majestic gold detailing enveloped Kylie and her now husband, Aljur, as they officially became newlyweds.
The whole thing was an ode to how creativity and originality can make all the difference; for brides-to-be, take it from Kylie—don't be afraid to experiment!
Kylie and Aljur's wedding was the second biggest milestone they celebrated in 2018, the first being their son Alas' first birthday in August.
Christian Bautista and Kat Ramnani
When your love is as special as Christian and Kat's, it deserves not one big day, but four.
That's right. This couple in love solidified their commitment to be each other's forevers beginning with a civil ceremony at Las Casas in Quezon City, a wedding in Bali, and star-studded receptions held at The Manila Hotel's Champagne Room and Sonya's Garden in Tagaytay. Each event saw this couple dress to match the location beautifully, making sure that all of them would be a hundred percent unique and memorable.
With this wedding doubling as a mini fashion show for this couple, we're definitely keeping in mind how a versatile wardrobe—versus a traditional white gown and black tux combo—lends a lovely touch to a formal occasion.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
We could never forget this, as theirs will be the fairy tale wedding that came true for decades and decades to come.
As well-documented as it was, we can't help but continue to gush over our favorite details from the historic event: it was the first wedding that saw a British monarch marry a woman with African-African heritage, the ceremony featuring American and English customs that was touted as the beginning of British royalty's "modern" generation, and of course, it simply looked magical.
We're sure that the springtime event will continue to inspire different people in different ways, from its fashion, moments of cultural and social importance, and the barriers that the Duchess of Sussex proved could be broken in this day and age.
Jack Brooksbank and Princess Eugenie
Meghan and Harry weren't the only British royals that became husband and wife this year; his cousin, Princess Eugenie, became businessman Jack Brooksbank's happy spouse in October when they married in a smaller, but equally stunning, ceremony in London.
And just like Meghan, who is known to be a staunch supporter of several advocacies, the 28-year-old Princess Eugenie took advantage of the focus the world gave her on her special day by shining the spotlight on the causes closest to her heart.
Truly a beautiful bride inside and out, she made sure that aspects of her wedding would call attention to what she stood for—scoliosis awareness and children's charities.
Taylor Goldsmith and Mandy Moore
Whoever said a woman can't be beautiful as she walks down the aisle for a second time in her life is sorely mistaken.
Just see how Mandy Moore was absolutely glowing at her November autumn wedding to Taylor Goldmith. Sporting a non-traditional pink wedding dress with playful tulle and frilly details, this bride proves that what matters is not your past, but the future you promise to honor with your partner.
Additionally, we were especially impressed by how simple her ceremony was; it was held in her California home's backyard with just her innermost circle playing witness to the event.
John Scranton and Jenny Rockett
This is how to do a destination wedding—or specifically, a South African wedding with touches of effortless rustic beauty, outdoor airiness, and organic elements.
Taking a closer look at John and Jenny's wedding, you'll find that it was a perfect alternative to couples who wish to let the beauty of their venue shine and go easy on décor; sometimes, less can truly be more, even with an occasion as grand as a wedding.
Choosing the historic Nooitgedacht Wine Estate, a winery, luxury vacation spot and dining destination, and outdoor haven all in one, this couple sat back, relaxed, and basked in wedded bliss for the duration of their stay.
Ben Wintle and Iza Calzado
It was tropical beach galore at Ben and Iza's wedding held in Club Paradise, Coron, Palawan this month.
Surrounding themselves with the vistas of one of the Philippines' most beloved islands, these two became its king and queen for the night when the first chapter of their new lives as husband and wife was at front and center.
A small group of guests were most memorably treated to a Filipino fiesta-inspired welcome dinner the night before the big day, while a sunset-timed ceremony, flower-studded venue, one-of-a-kind photo booth, and glowing bride took everyone's breath away (Iza's Rajo Laurel dress was to die for!). The whole thing was a picture-perfect proof of how understated elements, when brought together, can result in an unexpected display of magnificence.
Martin Spies and Rachelle Ann Go
There were no rehearsed reactions or scripted smiles at Martin and Rachelle's Boracay wedding (it was one of the last weddings held in Boracay before it was temporarily closed for rehabilitation); just totally genuine, sincere excitement to finally get to call each other Mr. and Mrs.
Going down the path of timeless luxury for the most special day in their shared lives so far, this couple picked the Shangri-La's Boracay Resort & Spa as the backdrop to the event. Remembering that the island is also where they got engaged last year, Martin and theater actress Rachelle decided to go full circle by returning, this time, with a unified party of their relatives and industry friends to be there with them, too.
Jarvis Sy and Kim Yap
Fireworks! Custom dinnerware! A metallic aisle! Trendy hues and Instagram-worthy décor! Wedding games that were actually fun!
All of these and more helped define the union between stylist to the stars Kim Yap and beau Jarvis Sy. As a force in the local fashion scene, no one expected anything less from this celebration. Adding to the formula is the fact that KIm and her sister Boop have a reputation for throwing the best parties ever, everyone who attended this wedding were all smiles the entire time.
That's not to say that the real reason Kim and Jarvis' loved ones were gathered was overshadowed by everything else; this pair who's been together for years and years—yet took their time—was an absolute vision of fulfillment. By just being themselves, the true face of love was seen by all present.
Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie
Nothing quite tugs at the heartstrings of the biggest Game of Thrones fans as the reel-turned-real love story of actors Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie.
Playing each other's love interests on the award-winning show, the two indeed fell in love on the set and completed the journey from first date to "I do" in a wedding that took place in the historic town of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. As predicted, their GoT co-stars attended alongside family and friends, attracting worldwide attention (and feverish squealing among their biggest followers).
In particular, Rose's dress—an intricate lace number by Elie Saab—as well as her youthful chin-length ginger locks styled in bouncy waves, garnered admiration from the fashion world, too.
Paul Khoury and Ashley Greene
Beaches often come to mind when outdoor weddings are brought up, but did you know that foresty, mountainside destinations can be transformed from rugged to dreamy and wedding-perfect with the right hands?
Luckily for us, the Twilight actress and her new husband proved the possibility of such a feat and wowed everyone in the process. Everything about her fresh foliage-surrounded venue was utilized to a tee, and we're particularly big fans of the "arc" that served as the focal point during the ceremony.
It's another beaming example of what the right choice of venue can do; no need to fill it up with décor, and with just a statement-making piece or two, you'll be good to go.
Keven Undergaro and Maria Menounos
We knew that this showbiz couple had it in them to do a follow-up on their on-air proposal that took place in New York City's New Year's Eve countdown in January—and we were right.
Maria and Keven brought us to a scene-stealing village in Southern Greece, showing the world exactly what a quintessential Mediterranean wedding looks like. It was colorful (the color yellow and lemon décor were aplenty!), brimming with guests and well-wishers who are energetic and full of love for life—pretty much just like the couple getting married.
The choice of venue wasn't randomly selected, either; as a Greek-American, Maria hoped to pay homage to her heritage and as a loving groom, Keven agreed.
Joshua Kushner and Karlie Kloss
If this was a wedding you never saw coming, you're not alone!
We were just as surprised when supermodel and girls' education advocate Karlie got engaged to Joshua Kushner, brother to US President's son-in-law Jared Kushner, but as it seems, two individuals who appear like they have nothing in common could be prime candidates to become a happily married couple.
Both coming from high-profile backgrounds, it was refreshing to have Joshua and Karlie host a small, intimate wedding in New York, with only a few photographs from which were shared online. Fans of the two need not worry about scouring the web for more images of the special event, however, as they're reportedly planning a larger party to be held in spring next year.
Philip Schneider and Hilary Swank
Not all blind dates end in nightmarish stories—some of them can conclude in "I do!"
Take the experience of award-winning actress Hilary Swank who married social entrepreneur Philip Schneider. The duo met not too long ago when introduced by mutual friends, and just like that, sparks flew and never stopped flying since.
Enjoying their time together the most during their trips to the great outdoors, Philip not only proposed to Hilary in a secluded space during a mountain hike in Colorado, but they also decided to get married in a similar place in Carmel, California amongst a select group of people.
We're especially fond of the juxtaposition of her wedding venue and the intricate Elie Saab gown she wore; amidst the redwood trees (which were reportedly at least eight centuries old) was her in a dress fashioned out of 25 meters of chantilly lace, eight meters of silk chiffon, and six meters of organza silk.
Karl Cook and Kaley Cuoco
Barns and ranches aren't just for animals; they can be romantic settings for a Hollywood wedding, too!
The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco is a rather memorable one because of its originality; departing from predictable venues like churches, beaches, or even hotels, this actress—who is known for her love of animals—picked out a horse ranch, dressed it up, and made it the venue of her wedding. It turned out so much prettier than we could have ever imagined!
She was surrounded by everything she wanted in her wedding: her co-stars and friends, famiily, and even a whole group of animals she so deeply adores. If only combining your biggest loves with your wedding day could always look this stylish.
Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter
Weddings are (or should be) happy occasions, but for Brody and Kaitlynn, a hiccup on the road to their wedding gave them additional challenges to face before meeting each other at the altar.
That's because Brody, son of Bruce Jenner (who now identifies herself as Caitlyn Jenner) and his ex-wife Linda Thompson, felt largely ignored by his famous half-sisters, Kylie and Kendall, who didn't end up attending. But other than this small family dispute that faded out of sight as their wedding day drew closer, everything went swimmingly.
The ultra-exclusive Nihi Sumba Resort in Indonesia was where Brody and Kaitlynn became husband and wife, enjoying and treating their guests to classic tropical experiences including a fresh seafood feast and oceanside partying.
Sterling Shepard and Chanel Iman
We've always known that florals play a dramatic role in any wedding, but the way this Victoria's Secret model incorporated them in her reception was next-level fantastic.
Everything at her Beverly Hills Hotel venue was done in super feminine tones of blush, pink, and rose, while metals were all done in rose gold to match the décor, and Chanel's dresses. She was a total dream in creations by Zuhair Murad, looking every inch like the VS Angel she is.
Her wedding, and particularly her reception, was monochrome done right!
John Stamos and Caitlyn McHugh
We've literally waited for years for Full House hunk John Stamos to get engaged! Finally, in February, the 54-year-old tied the knot with girlfriend Caitlyn McHugh in a small church service in California, and celebrated with pals in his luxurious Beverly Hills home.
Nothing about this wedding was complicated; it focused on John and Caitlyn's relationship, the family they're now raising (she was pregnant with their first child at the wedding), and the future they couldn't wait to start together.
Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef
It's always a joyous occasion to see two people in love finally get to call each other husband and wife, but when members of the LGBTQIA+ community get to do the same, another layer of happiness is added given their decades-long struggle for the right to marry.
So when we found out that singer Ricky Martin had finally felt that his life was complete after marrying partner Jwan Yosef in a surprise ceremony last January, we were over the moon for them. Ricky and Jwan, who are parents to two sons, had been open about their relationship for a little over a year before making things official.
Many times in the past, Ricky had expressed his intetions of marrying Jwan, which made their "I dos" more emotional than ever.
Tim Yap and Javi Martinez Pardo
If Ricky and Jwan made international headlines with their wedding this January, the Philippines' LGTBQIA+ community was all eyes on Tim Yap and Javi Pardo when they tied the knot in the same month.
The Metro Channel host proposed to the event planner in January 2017, waiting exactly a year before getting married.
Contrary to what people exepected their ceremony to be like—star-studded, busy, and a party for the books—it was small, quiet, and very private. The couple flew all the way to New York to wed, and come the big day, there were only two witnesses, the Peninsula New York events manager, and officiant around.
Who needs a giant celebration when all that really matters is the love you share with your spouse?
Ellen Page and Emma Portner
It feels just like yesterday when Ellen Page (a.k.a. Juno) came out as gay in 2014. But with years moving fast and love choosing no one, it was just a matter of time when the charmingly funny actress would meet the love of her life, which is exactly what happened.
Ellen met dancer and dance teacher Emma in late 2017, marrying her six months after in a private ceremony in February. Fans were shocked, then later ecstatic, over the news when the couple eventually shared their relationship milestone with the world on Instagram.
As an active member of the LGTBQIA+ movement and previously a teen who battled with her sexuality, Ellen couldn't contain herself when one her life's biggest dreams had finally come true.
Bruno Saab and Ginger Conejero
Former beauty queen and ABS-CBN reporter Ginger Conejero tied the knot with Bruno Saab, her schoolmate in high school, in August. The tropical-themed wedding ceremony was held at Most Holy Rosary Chapel in Marin County, San Francisco.
Ginger wore a minimalist Vera Wang gown for her big day. In an exclusive interview with Metro.Style, Ginger said, "My silk crepe wedding gown gave me a feel of understated elegance, while its draped sleeves were unexpected and edgy. I loved it."
Sebastian Bear-McClard and Emily Ratajkowski
The sexy American actress and model started 2018 with a bang, surprising her followers with photos of her and actor-producer Sebastian Bear-McClard from their surprise New York city hall wedding. The event took place on February 23 at a Manhattan court house.
Posting a photo on social media, showing Sebastian kissing her on the cheeks, Emily made their wedding Instagram-official with the caption, "I got married today."
The bride wore a $199 mustard-colored Zara jumpsuit paired with a chic black hat. Of this non-traditional wedding outfit choice, Emily told Vanity Fair, "I never loved the idea of wearing white for a wedding because I'm not a pure woman. I'm a woman with a lot of character and experience and life. I also just loved the idea of a suit, especially at City Hall because it's like you're taking care of business. I really wanted to wear red actually, initially... and then I just loved mustard yellow and just knew it was the one."
Francesco Carrozzini and Bee Shaffer
The daughter of US Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour and the son of the late Vogue Italia Editor-In-Chief Franca Sozzani officially tied the knot at Wintour's Long Island home in July. This was followed by a small and intimate second wedding ceremony in Italy in the same month. Both events had a strict media ban and "no social media policy," but based from the few photos that leaked online from their Portofino, Italy wedding, it was a simple yet beautiful celebration of love.
The gorgeous bride was clad in an ivory lace ankle-length dress by Dolce & Gabbana, which she wore with a pair of gold strappy sandals by Manolo Blahnik.
A realeza da moda sobe ao altar! ?? Viva o amor! #beeshaffer #casamento
Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus
In the middle of all the holiday chaos, this couple surprised us with an intimate wedding all the practical and no-fuss engaged couples can take cues from. After their on and off relationship, the two finally realized they are each other's "The One," and their wedding celebration was beautiful and romantic in its utter simplicity.
Liam and Miley got married on December 23 at their $8.2 million, 7,000-square-foot Tennessee mansion that was decorated with lots of blooms and balloons. The bride picked out a romantic, off-shoulder ivory gown from Vivenne Westwood's made-to-order bridal line.
Luke Shadbolt and Nicole Warne
Nicole Warne, the fashion influencer better known as Gary Pepper Girl, got married to Luke Shadbolt in an awe-inspiring, fairy tale-like nuptials held in New Zealand. Vogue got the exclusive on this beautiful wedding, and all the photos were truly jaw-dropping, shining some spotlight on the picturesque natural wonders of the destination.
Like a true fashion It girl, Nicole's outfit choices were remarkable: a stunning Oscar de la Renta creation for the reception and a Maison Valentino gown for the ceremony.
