Who are you rooting for in this year's Baeksang edition?
The 59th Baeksang Arts Awards is almost here! As one of the much-awaited and most prestigious awards ceremony in the Korean entertainment scene, Baeksang is all about recognizing excellence in film, television, and theater. Those that made it to the nominee lineup were selected from projects that were released between April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023.
Organized by Ilgan Sports and JTBC Plus, this year's Baeksang Arts Awards event is set to happen on April 28, 2023 at the Incheon Paradise City. Once again, it will be hosted by this trio: Shin Dong Yup, Bae Suzy, and Park Bo Gum.
As always, the lineup of nominees for the Baeksang Arts Awards is exciting. But the competition is especially exhilarating for the Best Actress (Television) category, as the actresses who make up the list are all seasoned stars with dramas that truly generated a lot of buzz: Kim Hye Soo for Under the Queen's Umbrella, Bae Suzy for Anna, Song Hye Kyo for The Glory, Park Eun Bin for Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and Kim Ji Won for My Liberation Notes.

Kim Hye Soo
Kim Hye Soo's excellent portrayal of Queen Im Hwa Ryeong in the historical drama/black comedy series "Under the Queen's Umbrella" is what earned her a spot in the Best Actress - Television nominee lineup this year. In the top-rated series, her character has five sons who she's training to become proper princes; however, it's not an easy task even for a feisty mother like her, because her sons are troublemakers. This is the sixth time Kim Hye Soo received a Best Actress - Television nomination from Baeksang Arts Awards, winning the said award twice in 1996 for " Oxtail Soup" and in 2016 for "Signal." She was also named Most Popular Actress (TV) in 1991. In the film category, she won Best Actress in 2005 for "Hypnotized" and was recognized as Best New Actress in 1987 for "Ggambo" and Most Popular Actress in 1995 for "Eternal Empire."

Bae Suzy
Singer, actress, and fashion muse Bae Suzy proved her versatility in acting with the psychological thriller "Anna." Taking on dual roles, she breathed life into the character of a woman whose lie ends up with her living a completely different life. At the Baeksang Arts Awards, Bae Suzy was named Best New Actress - Film (2012) for " Architecture 101," Most Popular Actress - Film (2016) for "The Sound of a Flower," and Most Popular Actress - Television (2018) for "While You Were Sleeping." She also received the InStyle Fashionista Award in 2016 and was nominated as Best New Actress - Television (2011) for "Dream High."

Song Hye Kyo
Leading this year's revenge-driven female K-drama characters, Song Hye Kyo's Moon Dong Eun has given the well-known and well-loved actress a new accolade to add to her dossier. In the buzzworthy series "The Glory," she wowed viewers with her portrayal of a character who was bullied in high school and has dedicated her life to plotting revenge against her perpetrators. Song Hye Kyo's track record at the Baeksang Arts Awards includes a Most Popular Actress - Television award and iQiyi Global Star Award in 2016 for "Descendants of the Sun" and a Most Popular Actress - Television award in 2001 for "Autumn In My Heart." She was nominated for the same category in 2005 for "Full House," in 2013 for "That Winter, The Wind Blows," and in 2016 for "Descendants of the Sun."

Park Eun Bin
Park Eun Bin was nominated for the Best Actress - Television category last year for her dual characters in the historical romance series "The King's Affection." Although she did not win, this year, she's recognized again for her compelling performance in portraying the character of Woo Young Woo, a rookie lawyer at a top law firm and is also the first attorney in Korea who's on the autism spectrum. This nomination sure is a huge milestone for Park Eun Bin, who started out in the Korean entertainment industry as a child star.

Kim Ji Won
Kim Ji Won has unlocked a new milestone in her career, as this is the first time she received a nomination fromBaeksang Arts Awards. In her slice-of-life K-drama "My Liberation Notes," she took on the role of Yeom Mi Jeong, who works as a contract employee at a credit card company's design department. Along with her two siblings and a guy who works for their family, Mi Jeong seeks purpose and meaning in life. This same project earned Kim Ji Won acting nominations from award-giving bodies like APAN Star Awards and Global Film & Television Huading Awards.
