The sudden passing of award-winning actress Jaclyn Jose shocked Philippine showbiz and her fellow stars. She died at 59 on March 2, 2024, and the cause of death remains undisclosed. PPL Entertainment, Inc. released a statement shortly as the news broke. Netizens and avid supporters of the acting heavyweight were heartbroken, mourning the tragic loss of a true legend.

“It saddens us to inform everyone of the untimely passing of Miss Jaclyn Jose. More details will be shared as soon as they are available,” Jaclyn’s management announced. “The Guck and Eigenmann families are requesting for everyone to please pray for the eternal repose of Miss Jaclyn Jose and for them to be allowed the respect and privacy to mourn her passing, and navigate these difficult times.”

Meanwhile, actors and entertainment luminaries expressed their heartfelt tributes. Dimples Romana, for one, opened up about working alongside Jaclyn in their previous projects titled Minsan May Isang Puso and May Minamahal. “Tita Jane, I remember all the laughter, the lessons you generously taught me as a young actor,” she said in her post. “Mahal kita at laging yayakap nang mahigpit. You will never be forgotten.”

Kylie Padilla also shared a photo on Instagram. According to her, Jaclyn was a mom and a friend to her. “Still crying. I keep hearing your voice in my head,” her message went. “We talked about motherhood. Life. And love. I loved your energy. It’s only a comfort that I saw you last night in my dreams smiling. I got a sense that you were at peace wherever you were. And that’s what you deserve.”

Seasoned actor Gardo Versoza is in sorrow as well. “Mahal na mahal kita, Abe. Masakit na paalam. Magkukuwentuhan pa tayo, ‘di ba?” he put in the caption of his post.

Singer-songwriter Ice Seguerra, however, thanked Jaclyn for her timeless support to him and his partner Liza Diño.

Hindi ako makapaniwala. Maraming salamat sa pagmamahal mo kay Liza. Lagi mo siyang sinusuportahan nu’ng nasa FDCP at pinagtatanggol nu’ng wala na siya. Thank you for your kindness. Sobrang nakakalungkot.”

Gladys Reyes, on the other hand, only has the best words for Jaclyn. “Ang dami nating pinagsamahan, simula 9 years old ako,” she began.

Salamat sa mga tips, pag-alaga mo sa’kin na parang ate kita talaga. Nabawasan na naman ng isang magaling at de kalibreng aktor ang industriya. Mami-miss namin ang nag-iisang Jaclyn Jose.”

Born Mary Jane Guck, Jaclyn Jose is a Cannes Film Festival award-winning actress. She is the first Filipino to take home a Best Actress title in the prestigious film fest for her performance in the 2016 film Ma’ Rosa. Her last small screen project was Batang Quiapo where she played the role of Jail Chief Supt. / Brig. Gen. Dolores Espinas.

In 1984, Jaclyn made her acting debut in back-to-back adult drama films Chicas and Private Show. She is the mother of Andi Eigenmann and Gwen Garimond Ilagan Guck.
