AC Bonifacio Wins Second Place In BLACKPINK's "How You Like That" Dance Cover Contest!
"This was so, so unexpected. I've been doing all my K-Pop covers just because I love them and it was my way of showing support and never in a million years would I have thought that we would win second," AC said
Talk about the ultimate reward for being one of Manila's biggest Blinks!
In case you haven't heard, AC Bonifacio, a Kapamilya artist known for her crazy sharp dance moves, is a massive BLACKPINK fan. And when the four-member K-Pop girl group announced that they were holding a dance cover contest for their latest single "How You Like That" earlier this month, worlds literally collided for the 17-year-old.
There's no other way to put it; she freaked out about the chance to show off her fangirling for her favorite Korean music group, even calling on the help of professional videographers, a production team, plus a glam squad to pull off what she had in mind for the competition.
Filmed by Chapters by Mayad, the dance cover and music video in one had AC perform as each of the BLACKPINK girls; she had separate outfits and makeup looks for her takes on Lisa, Jennie, Rosé, and Jisoo, and more impressively, different sets, too! The fact that AC and her team managed to execute everything despite quarantine-related challenges made the entry all the more deserving of recognition.
Clocking in at three minutes and a second, AC's dance cover had everything on point; from the choreography to her projection of BLACKPINK's signature sass, all the way to the seamless editing and K-pop-esque wardrobe.
But AC's entry's biggest wow factor has to be how it was a one-woman performance. She willingly learned all the song's steps (with some of them meant to be performed solo by each of the BLACKPINK members) to be able to pull of the dance cover on her own.
AC's was the only solo performance among all the acts recognized in the contest, including the big winner! In the end, AC and her team's efforts landed her a second place win, something that she didn't expect to happen despite all the work she put in.
She previously did dance covers of BLACKPINK's "Kill This Love" and BTS' "On" as well.
Check out what AC had to say about her win, plus a couple of BTS shots from the shoot:
The contest's first prize winner was Premium Dance Studio - Yemin Boss, an adorable child dance duo from South Korea, while third place went to Vietnamese all-girl dance troupe B-Wild.
Aside from AC, another Filipino celeb, Ella Cruz, also joined the contest.
This isn't AC's first brush with international stardom though. In 2015, she and her then dance partner, Lucky Ancheta, were featured on the Ellen DeGeneres show and in the same year, went onstage with Ariana Grande for her Vancouver, Canada show.
There's no doubt in our minds that AC deserved her big win, and a massive congratulations is due to the young performer! We're definitely excited to see more of her in the future!
