You'll Fall Head Over Heels For Bea Alonzo And Aga Muhlach's Film, "First Love"

Sparks fly between Bea Alonzo and Aga Muhlach in their first-ever onscreen pair-up, First Love—a cinematic marvel that paints a pretty picture of falling in love, and all the beauty that comes with risking one's heart for the romance of a lifetime.

As the first full-length feature to star this handsome tandem together (and only the second film to succeed in coaxing Aga out of his seven-year movie hiatus), we know to expect only the best from this project. Bringing out the chemistry in Bea and Aga is, of course, the film's director, Paul Soriano, Metro Manila Film Festival 2017's Best Director awardee.

Together, the trio re-interprets the universal tale of once-in-a-lifetime chances, reminding all that without urgency and courage, they pass us by, never to come again. Luckily for Bea (who plays the film's vibrant leadling lady Ali) and Aga (who is convincing as the more somber Nick), both take a leap of faith, allowing love to triumph.

It was but a few months ago when Bea received a call from Aga while she was in transit. "Unexpected" might be an understatement for the experience, considering the actress' lifelong dream to act alongside one of her biggest silver screen idols. It was more like a prayer being answered.

“Sabi ko [sa driver ko], ‘Sandali, sandali, tumigil ka. Tatawag si Aga Muhlach!’ Oo, talagang sinagot ko. Tapos, tina-try kong ikalma ang sarili ko," she recalls with a laugh.

As it turned out, the seasoned actor secretly harbored the same dream of sharing the screen with the 30-year-old beauty, and when plans for First Love were finalized, he was more than ready to personally ask her if she would be interested in working on a film together.

Hindi pa niya natatapos ’yung sentence niya, sabi ko, 'Oo, oo, opo, sige, gumawa tayo ng pelikula," continued Bea.

It didn't take long before the Bea, Aga, Paul and the rest of the team headed to Vancouver, Canada in June to begin shooting.

Set against the British Columbian city's most recognizable sites, the story of Ali and Nick unfolds. Without revealing too much, Paul simply describes the couple's beginnings as meeting at the right place at the right time, yet being in two totally different places in their own lives.

Ali is in town because of a medical diagnosis that requires the care of specialists, and most pressingly, a heart transplant. She takes life one day at a time, finding happiness despite uncertainty and being confronted with her mortality. Given the choice to give up or to make the most of the worst possible situation life could ever hand to her, she goes for the latter.

On the other side of the fence is Nick, a calculating, analytical mind who's always played it safe. Guided by logic and reason, his world makes a massive shift when he encounters Ali.

At one turning point, Nick asks Ali rather sharply about their purpose and questions their togetherness. Without taking offense, Ali simply states, "It's fate. Pinagtagpo tayo ng tadhana."

For the first time in Nick's life, heart takes over mind, and for Ali, her path finally leads her to an anchor that will keep her safe, even during the stormiest of times. Indeed, their time together concocts the perfect circumstances for first love to blossom, and quite possibly, for last, forever love, too.
