One is happily married with a kid, while the other is sparking rumors of possibly settling down soon.
When it comes to the Gonzaga sisters, you think you know and have seen it all. But their lives just keep on marking one exciting milestone after another that it can be hard to keep up with them. At the rate they're going, they might as well be stars in their own reality show (yes, "Keeping Up with the Gonzagas").
Both multi-talented multi-hyphenates, Alex and Toni Gonzaga are both successful as actresses, TV hosts, brand endorsers, authors, and entrepreneurs. What they do have in common is that when they set their minds on something, they will do it with perfect aplomb. Recently, they've also dabbled in producing a film via the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry Mary, Marry Me under TinCan Productions by TEN17P.
Directed by first-time movie director RC delos Reyes, Mary, Marry Me focuses on sisters Mary Jane (Toni) and Mary Ann (Alex). Mary Jane is an event/wedding organizer, and the most difficult event she's ever had to deal with is her estranged sister Mary Ann's wedding to her ex-boyfriend Pete (Sam Milby). As the big day approaches, past issues resurface to create conflict between the characters, who will eventually have to choose between the very things that give meaning to their lives: love and family.
Who is the "Mary" Pete will end up marrying in this rom-com? That's for viewers to find out!
In the meantime, in this exclusive Q&A with Metro.Style, Alex and Toni Gonzaga share their thoughts about Mary, Marry Me—their first-ever movie together! Read on.
What is it about the movie that you like the most?
Alex: "We, Filipinos, are very family-oriented. I like that you have a premise where it's very rare na magiging kalaban mo sa true love mo ang kapamilya mo. It makes you think, 'Ano'ng pipiliin mo?'"
Toni: '"Yung premise na choosing love or choosing your family. What will you choose?"
This is your first movie with your sister. How was it like working with her on this project?
A: "Nakita ko kung paano s'ya as an actor... More on bonding s'ya with Ate. We would always talk and reminisce: 'Grabe, imagine, meron na tayong pelikula na tayo ang nag-produce. Isipin mo 'yung ganu'ng feeling na nag-produce tayo ng movie tapos nakapasok pa sa MMFF. Dati nanonood lang tayo ng MMFF movies, ngayon isa na tayo sa magiging choices.' Reminiscing ng buhay namin before and how different it is now. So we appreciated more 'yung ginagawa namin."
T: "Ito 'yung movie na pinaka at home ako at kumportable. But at the same time, ninenerbyos lagi. Masaya na weird. Iba 'yung feeling... I’m always scolding Alex because I tell her that the set is not a playground. This is not the time for fun and games and jokes. This is serious work. All she wants is to have fun, and that’s okay, but when it’s work, I expect her to be professional."

You've both been in showbiz for a long time already. Why is it only now that you're doing a movie together?
A: "Siguro perfect timing, kasi dati may plano na kami gawin 'yan, nabuntis ang Ate. 'Pag ganu'n, we just think na si Lord ang gumagawa ng perfect timing so 'pag nangyari, walang kumontra, baka that's really what the Lord wants. Pero ito, nu'ng ginagawa na namin, ang dami pa ring struggles, ang dami pa ring hindrances pero natuloy pa rin s'ya."
This movie is under TEN17P. What was Direk Paul Soriano's involvement in the film?
T: "He was just there to support but nag-hands-off s'ya. He allowed us to do our creative process na kami lang. He gave us the whole freedom to be involved, be more present in every scene, and he just respected our decisions."

How did you prepare for this role?
A: "Honestly speaking, wala ako masyadong ginawang preparations for this. Kapatid ko ang co-star ko e. This is also a comedy e, rom-com s'ya. While we were doing the script, kahit papaano nalalaman mo na na eto 'yung character, eto 'yung magiging attack ko... 'Yung making the movie was not a problem for us, 'yung behind the scenes, 'yun talaga 'yung naging challenging, mas naging challenging ang pagiging producer namin."
T: "I just remembered my wedding. I was just so involved with it. Our wedding coordinator, Rita Neri, we were talking almost everyday; every 3 or 4 hours, we were in touch with each other. During the whole process, I saw how she worked. She is the top wedding coordinator in the country; she’s one of the first few people who started in the wedding business, so i just really tried to remember everything she did, and I tried to come up with my own style on how I would portray the role of a wedding coordinator. I'm kinda perfectionist, but you know what, because I'm working with my sister, I learned to let go and accept that I cannot control everything."
