Angel Locsin and Neil Arce vlogged about their civil wedding upon the request of their followers and subscribers. The video, which is almost 17 minute-long, detailed the events that led to their decision to finally hold a civil wedding.
It was last August 7 when the couple shared that they’re officially married, following up the announcement with a vlog on The Angel and Neil Channel a week later.
Angel Locsin and Neil Arce got engaged in June 2019. “Right after Father’s Day, right after ko bilin ’yung ring, pumunta agad ako sa daddy n’ya. Sabi ko, magpro-propose ako. Sabi ng daddy n’ya, ‘O ano’ng proposal mo?’ Akala n’ya may business proposal,” Neil recounts. “Tapos sabi ni Ate Ella, ‘Daddy, magpapakasal sila’. ‘Ay, good, good, good!’ Gumanun naman so sobrangnawala ’yung burden ko sa shoulders ko nu’n. Tapos tinanong n’ya ako kailan ako magpro-propose, kasi pupunta si Angel nu’n sa Belgium, so sabi ko, baka after nu’n. Sabi ng daddy n’ya, ‘Hindi, gawin mo na bago lumipad.’”
The then newly-engaged couple didn’t waste time and immediately started on their wedding plans. Just two or three weeks after their engagement, they already found a venue and a wedding planner, and had decided on a theme. They also planned a prenup pictorial in Finland. But then the pandemic happened, and they had to cancel their plans.
“Sabi namin, parang ayaw talaga kami pag-prenup shoot, pakasal na tayo,” Neil reveals.
The couple kept their plans for a civil wedding a secret, and only told their loved ones about it a day before the event. Angel Locsin and Neil Arce tied the knot last July at the Taguig City Hall (although they did not say the exact date, they hinted that it happened on the 26th, when Hidilyn Diaz made headlines for winning a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics). The ceremony was presided over by Mayor Lino Cayetano. It had been raining non-stop days before their wedding. “Surprisingly, ’yun lang ’yung araw na umaraw,” Angel says.
Neil adds, “Tapos nanalo siHidilyn [Diaz], ’yun ’yung topic namin habang kumakain.”

They describe their wedding as “simple pero rock.”
True to this couple’s personality, their wedding was very intimate and no-fuss. They asked their guests to come dressed up casually; Angel even told Neil’s best friend to just wear slippers. That’s how laid-back this couple is! Angel and Neil also didn’t even have qualms about lining up to ride the elevator leading to their exact venue. What’s more, Angel was even carrying the box containing her bouquet herself. “Nakakatuwa naman ’yung nangyari sa wedding because may personal touch namin talaga. It’s very intimate, simple. It’s very us,” Angel says. They only had less than 10 guests to witness their union.

They didn’t have wedding vows or rings!
Angel and Neil are still planning for a church wedding, and would like to save some unique memories for when that happens. Neil shares, “Wala kaming dalang singsing! Nag-usap naman kami na we’re going to save some moments na mangyayari sa Christian wedding na first time. In lieu of wedding bands, Angel used her engagement ring (the one they had recreated when Angel unfortunately misplaced the original engagement ring Neil gave to her while on board a plane heading to Italy for an ‘ASAP’ show), while Neil borrowed his son’s ring who, thankfully, was wearing one that day.

They didn’t have a videographer, and didn’t even want a wedding photo shoot of sorts.
The video documentation of their civil wedding was all thanks to Angel’s brother and Dimples Romana’s husband Boyet Ahmee. Angel and Neil just also casually asked NicePrint Photo for photo documentation. The couple was actually hesitant to have a photo shoot. ‘O sige, tara!’ Nag-picture picture, naglaro-laro lang kami, nagmukha kaming nasa Barcelona eh.” They are thankful to have followed the photographer, because now they have beautiful images to remember the occasion by.

They had street food and take-out dishes at the reception.
Angel and Neil really wanted to keep things as simple as possible, and they even opted to have take-out food instead of having a catered banquet-style menu. Their wedding cake, a stunning mocha cake topped with white roses, was a gift from Neil’s mom.

Their styling peg for the reception was a simple barbeque setup that was elevated to an elegant backyard setting.
Angel and Neil worked with florist and event stylist Randy Lazaro for their backyard reception setup. They previously worked with him for the ABS-CBN show “Iba ’Yan,” and Angel remembered being so impressed by his output. Their wedding planner, La Belle Fête connected Angel and Randy; the two discussed the details just about a couple of days before the wedding. The bride initially just wanted to borrow tables and chairs and outdoor lighting. But when the styling expert found out what the event was, he kindly asked the bride to give him free rein on the aesthetic of their setup instead, because he felt so grateful for the opportunity. Randy shared on Instagram, “As requested, the setting has less flowers, lots of greenery. Not too feminine, but full of character. La Belle Fête and I brainstormed. They guided me to ensure that I would grasp firmly what they liked. The goal: My aesthetics would combine with the couple’s. The result: It embodies Angel and Neil.”

Angel wasn’t supposed to have a bridal bouquet.
Angel and Neil were dressed in matching smart casual attire during their civil ceremony. The bride was so simple she didn’t consider carrying a bridal bouquet, but their event stylist and florist Randy Lazaro managed to convince her. Angel couldn’t have been happier that she listened to him, because that accent made her feel more of a bride and made the photos look nicer, too! La Belle Fête shares, “Neil and Angel wanted all things simple, nothing pretentious, warm, welcoming, not too feminine, raw and real. For her bouquet, Randy tied stems of white Hellebores, Astilbe, Bouvardia, Nigella, Italian Ruscus combined with Eucalyptus. The bouquet is unassuming yet with a distinct character that is truly perfect for Angel.”
Angel and Neil set a new standard for pandemic weddings, where the focus really lies not on the event itself but the relationship as husband and wife and the marriage they’re building and strengthening. At the end of the day, that is what matters most, and that was what this couple really paid attention to.
As part of the vlog, the messages of Angel’s father Angelo and Neil’s mom Jean were also shown.
Angel’s dad says, “To Angel and Neil, congratulations... I wish you happiness throughout your lives. This can only be achieved if you take good care of each other day by day, and much more if you put Christ in the center… I’m now 94 years old, and I wish that Neil and Angel will soon give me a grandchild.”
Neil’s mom Jean, on the other hand, shares, “Si Angel kasi ’yung nakaharap sa’kin nu’ng mag-e-exchange na sila ng vows. Tinitingnan ko ’yung mga mata n’ya. Sabi nga nila, the eyes are the windows to your soul. Nu’ng tinanong na ni Mayor Lino, ‘Do you, Angel, take Neil?’ At sumagot na s’ya ng ‘I do,’ nakita ko talagasa mga mata n’ya na mahal n’ya talaga ang anak ko. Sabi ko, ‘God, thank you ha na pinakinggan mo talaga lahat ng prayers ko, na binigyan mo talaga ang anak ko ng isang companion sa buhay.’”
Congratulations and best wishes, Angel and Neil!
