We follow the lovely couple on their safari honeymoon through their photos, and look forward to crafting a similar itinerary soon!
Johannesburg
Johannesburg is the largest city of South Africa and is the birthplace of the legendary Nelson Mandela. Anne and Erwan started their African safari tale in Johannesburg, where they checked in to AtholPlace Hotel & Villa, a stunning hotel that gives off a contemporary-classic glamour and understated elegance. The rooms and the hotel itself whisks you back to old-school movies and nostalgic music.
They also visited the Apartheid Museum, a museum in Johannesburg that showcases the 20th century history of South Africa.
Zimbabwe
From Johannesburg, Anne and Erwan start their real safari experience in Zimbabwe. Since Zimbabwe is mostly savanna, with areas of evergreen and hardwood forests, the national parks in the country have attracted tourists for their vibrant and exciting fauna.
Anne and Erwan get their taste of glamping as they stay in a tent in the middle of Mana Pools National Park, where they get to experience “the call of nature” literally in the middle of nature, and wake up to the sounds of hippos and elephants passing by.
Mana Pools is the home to the biggest concentration of hippopotami and crocodiles in South Africa, and herds of elephants and cape buffalo. They were able to capture bathing elephants as they canoed down the Zambezi River, the longest east-flowing river from Africa to the Indian Ocean.
Apart from their safari canoe, the highlight of the Zambezi river is the Victoria falls, a beautiful and majestic waterfalls whose indigenous Lozi language name, Mosi-oa-Tunya, means "The Smoke That Thunders.”
While it is usually impossible to sit at the edge of a waterfall without falling over, usually during the months of September to December, a rock barrier forms an eddy with minimal current at the edge of Victoria falls called “Devil’s Pool.” This particular area allows for adventurous spirits to swim or stay right at the point where the water cascades over the falls. Anne takes this challenge and poses boldly at the Devil’s Pool.

They also spent a couple of days at the nearby Hwange National Park, the largest natural reserve in Zimbabwe. At the heart of Hwange Park, they stayed at the beautiful Somalisa Acacia Private Camp, a glamping spot perfect to watch and get up-close with herds of elephants, zebras, giraffe, and even lions!
Anne says, “I can’t explain the thrill and nervousness you feel being so close to these majestic animals. Every movement is with caution and by listening carefully and calmly to your guide, no finger or hands outside the canoe if you don’t want them to be lunch for a croc.”
To Kenya and beyond
As of writing, Anne and Erwan has just landed in Kenya, their third stop in what would be an “Africa date month,” as Erwan calls it.
Anne already shared a sneak peak of their beautiful home while they’re in Nairobi, Kenya. We’re definitely looking forward to the next installments in their big safari adventure.
