BLACKPINK x Selena Gomez? The Possible Collab Could Be One Of 2020's Most Memorable Music Moments!
Selenators and Blinks, unite!
Not even a pandemic can stop this kind of creativity from materializing.
Chart-topper Selena Gomez and well-loved South Korean girl group BLACKPINK could have collaborated on a song and their fans—Selenators and Blinks—are all over it. We say "could have" because the surprise single has actually already been recorded, and it's due to come out sometime this month!
In case you missed the news, this musical guessing game all began when BLACKPINK posted a teaser poster on Instagram a little over week ago. Aside from featuring the BLACKPINK girls Lisa, Jisoo, Rosé, and Jennie, the poster also had a pretty interesting detail you couldn't miss: the word "Featuring?" done in big, bold letters.
The post sent the K-Pop corner of the Internet into a frenzy and Blinks from all over the world put on their thinking hats to figure out who the mystery collaborator is. Just a few days later, many digital detectives were sure they'd cracked the code and bets were placed on a rather interesting guess: Selena Gomez!
Here's why fans are convinced:
BLACKPINK has opened the door to working with Western artists.
BLACKPINK's potential Selena collab won't be the first time that they've sung with an American artist. In May, Lady Gaga released "Sour Candy" from her album Chromatica, a hit that featured velvety vocals from the four-part girl group. It marked BLACKPINK's second project with a foreign artist (the first time being with Dua Lipa in her 2018 smash hit "Kiss and Make Up"), so who's to say that they'll stop there?
Selena might have "left a hint" herself.
Only the most devoted of Blinks could have put these pieces of the puzzle together. Checking for a cookie trail crumb over on Selena's side, an extra observant fan picked up a clue from her Spotify playlist, no less. One of BLACKPINK's hits from 2019, "Kill This Love," found its way to the Disney alum's public playlist and it was apparently added just in April. A bunch of people are convinced that Selena could have been trying to say that she and BLACKPINK had something brewing in the background.
Jisoo is a Selenator.
That's right! There's mutual admiration between these two queens of pop and Jisoo has been pretty open about fangirling over Selena. She's publicly talked about being excited to meet Selena and how she's always looked up to her before becoming a famous singer herself. She and Rosé met her at a Coach event in 2018!

Interscope Records could be the missing link.
To investigate the business side of things, a Selena x BLACKPINK song could become reality because both artists release music under Interscope Records! They're one of two record companies that handle the K-Pop girl group outside of Asia and they've been an official YG Entertainment (BLACKPINK's Korean agency) partner since 2018. With Selena and BLACKPINK being two of their biggest international artists, we can only imagine what magic will ensue if they team them up.
Interestingly, Selena wasn't people's initial guess. At first, Blinks were sure that Charlie Puth would be BLACKPINK's mystery guy, and then others believed it was Ariana Grande.
The specifics don't matter much to Blinks, though, because they're a hundred percent sure that no matter who sings alongside BLACKPINK, the end result is sure to be a masterpiece!
