Are Selena Gomez And Justin Bieber Giving Love Another Chance?
Some people drowned in their own tears when teen idols and award-winning singers Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber broke up, while others praised the heavens for the split-up. No matter what you felt about one of the most publicized relationships in recent memory, the two appear to be giving things a second chance as they welcomed 2018 together while watching fireworks, oceanside, during a vacation in Mexico.
But don't rejoice (or despair) just yet! They haven't confirmed nor denied their relationship status. The millennial superstars are taking it slower than usual this time, truly testing the waters to see if a committed relationship is really the way to go for them.
If anyone needs reminding about how their eventful relationship unfolded, here's a timeline that details the peaks and troughs of #Jelena's seven-year-long love story. Get comfortable, as this is one heck of a ride!
2010: Selena is 18 and Justin is 16 when the sparks first flew. She is a Disney starlet, and he is still making the rounds on YouTube as the talented singing Canadian cutie with side-swept bangs.
2011: In January, they officially come out as a couple and #Jelena is set into full swing. Fans are delirious, thanks to the fever brought by this particular love bug. Come February, they walk the Oscars red carpet, and when you're each other's date to the Oscars, it's the most official you can get in Hollywood, before tying the knot.
November 2011: Rumors surface about the young lovers' split. Their relationship goes through its first rocky period, sending off the first round of ripples of tough times for a year.
November 2012: The break-up becomes official—or at least, the first of several.
January 2013: They appear to have gotten back together, and Selena puts in the effort of making it up to her beau by flying to Norway to visit him.
November 2014: After over a year of on and off again speculation from their fans and the media, the two spill the beans and confirm that they've really call it quits this time. Or have they?
Throughout 2015: Selena and Justin don't spend much time together, but use their media appearances to, sort of, maybe hint that they are still thinking of each other and hadn't really forgotten about their time together. (Check out their separate interviews in ELLE and The Ellen DeGeneres Show).
November 2016: Selena pulls out from her tour and takes a break from producing music because of complications from Lupus. Justin visits her while she's recovering.
February 2017: Just when fans thought the two are about to patch things up, Selena is rumored to be dating fellow hit maker The Weeknd. The real drama explodes when The Weeknd released a song whose lyrics appears to allude to a very specific ex-boyfriend of a girl he was seeing. Justin hits back by telling reporters he would never support The Weeknd's work, and Selena supposedly dishes out a single all about no longer being in love with a boyfriend.
Mid 2017: They stop throwing shade via their songs and in October, Justin is seen hanging out with ex-flame Selena in her own home. In the same month, they're even seen exiting a church together after attending service. Oh, and, sound the alarms; Selena also broke up with The Weeknd around the same time. Related events, perhaps?
November 2017: They hang out, constantly. They kiss. They don't say a word on social media. What does it all mean, their fans wonder.
Christmas 2017: The two suffer a major fall after a fight over Hailey Baldwin (another high-profile gal Justin never confirmed to have dated) and enroll in couple's therapy. (Trivia: Selena's mom reportedly brought herself to a hospital's ER from the stress of learning about her daughter getting back with Justin and the couple going to therapy). The pair didn't spend Christmas together.
New Year's Eve 2018: And now, this brings us to the present! They haven't broken up again, nor gotten back together. They're still in each other's lives, but are figuring out how to fit together. It was reported that they did spend New Year's Eve together in Cabo, Mexico. Selena was ringing in the New Year with friends in a private villa, while Justin followed suit, booking his own place near hers. Come midnight, they sat by the ocean and watched the fireworks go, probably thinking about what 2018 will bring for them.
January 2018: They are spotted leaving a hot pilates session together on January 3—just the two of them leaving together, no friends or other companions. While still staying relatively secretive about what's really going on between them, their fans continue to stay glued to their screens for telltale posts, tweets, or grams.
There you have it! In a nutshell, this has been Selena and Justin's rollercoaster ride of a relationship. As they rekindle the love between them, it appears this young couple is willing to put in the effort to make it work and, hopefully, this time around, to make it last.
