The Nominees For Best Supporting Actor On TV At The 56th Baeksang Arts Awards
Whether as an ally or a foe, these actors did a commendable job at helping or challenging our dear protagonists
Excitement is building up every day, as the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards is getting closer and closer. The event is scheduled to take place on June 5 at KINTEX in the Gyeonggi province of South Korea. It will be hosted by Shin Dong-gyup, Bae Suzy, and Park Bo-gum.
Although this celebration of excellence in the Korean entertainment industry will be a unique one—because it won’t have an audience to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease that continues to paralyze the world—it’s still generating a lot of buzz for its great lineup of nominees.
While the lead stars serve as the focal points in a series, we believe every K-Drama needs a talented bunch of supporting actors, too, for that overall satisfying viewing experience. They are the ingredients that complete a dish, and it’s been tested time and time again that if they’re not appealing enough, there’s a chance the final product could be bland. That is definitely not the case with K-Dramas Crash Landing on You, Itaewon Class, The World of the Married, When the Camellia Blooms, and Hyena, for which these supporting actors are nominated.
In the gallery below, get to know the Best Supporting Actor nominees for TV at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards:

Yoo Jae-Myung for “Itaewon Class”
Yoo Jae-myung is Jang Dae-hee, the main villain in this drama series. Dae-hee is the self-made CEO of successful food company Jangga Group. He later meets the male lead, young restaurateur Park Sae-ro-yi (Park Seo-joon), who becomes his rival and challenges his beliefs and philosophies as a businessman. Dae-hee's career-obsessed personality and scheming ways added the much-needed complexity to the plot, keeping viewers hooked and on the lookout for the competition between him and Sae-ro-yi with each episode.

Yang Kyung-Won for “Crash Landing on You”
All who have seen “CLOY” would agree that comrade Pyo Chi-su (Yang Kyung-won) was amazing at being a comic relief in this series. He delivered a memorable take on his snobbish yet subtly warm onscreen persona. His North Korean accent earned praises, too, making his portrayal of a North Korean officer truly realistic.

Kim Young-Min for “The World of the Married”
Perhaps you liked him as Jung Man-bok, the North Korean wiretapper and one of Capt. Ri Jeong-hyeok’s comrades in the widely popular “Crash Landing on You,” but his Baeksang Arts Awards nomination for this year goes to his portrayal of “The World of the Married” character Son Je-hyuk, an accountant and a womanizer. If in CLOY, he showed his comedic flair as an actor, in TWOTM, we saw that he can pull off R-rated scenes as well.

Oh Jung-Se for “When the Camellia Blooms”
As the annoying landlord No Gyu-tae, Oh Jung-se has helped “When the Camellia Blooms” make more impact to the viewers. His character is married to a lawyer, but he’s drawn to the female lead, Oh Dong-baek (Gong Hyo-jin), who’s renting his property for her bar. Throughout the series, he makes one think whether he’s good or bad, and his effective acting adds to the suspense of this rom-com thriller. Oh Jung-se is also a cast member in “Hot Stove League,” which is also nominated as the Best Drama series at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards.

Jeon Seok-ho for “Hyena”
In this law-centric K-Drama, Jeon Seok-ho is Ga Gi-hyeok, one of the lawyers at top law firm Song & Kim. He’s a colleague and a friend of male lead Yoon Hee-jae (Jun Ji-hoon). He’s loyal, reliable, and resourceful, but he eventually struggles with stepping up the corporate ladder. And because he wants to further assert his position and establish himself as a good lawyer, his decisions lead to conflicts. He’s also a cast member in “Kingdom” and “Kingdom 2,” the first season of which is nominated as one of the Best Drama series at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards.
