The phenomenal rise of Philippine girl group BINI is indeed making an impact in the local music landscape. Their success is every P-pop entertainer’s success, tied to their mission of taking Filipino pop to further heights. With their hit chart-topper “Pantropiko” (2024) catapulting to Spotify’s #1 spot, BINI’s season of bloom has finally begun.

The eight-piece ensemble’s beginnings, looking back, started as training sessions in their breeding ground, the Star Hunt Academy (SHA). From 2018 to 2020, these girls have braved tireless nights and trained like there was no tomorrow.

Galing po kami sa iba’t ibang mga probinsya po and sumubok lang talagang mag-audition,” BINI Jhoanna, the set’s leader, started off during in an exclusive talk with ABS-CBN executive and director Laurenti Dyogi.

With members BINI Jhoanna, BINI Aiah, BINI Colet, BINI Gwen, BINI Maloi, BINI Mikha, BINI Sheena, and BINI Stacey on the roster, it’s no wonder why BINI is the newest talk of the town. Their fandom BLOOM is taking over the orbit as well, wielding support to echo BINI’s stance and efforts in P-pop.

From being daydreamers to believers, BINI is turning their visions into ventures. “Ako po, personally, ever since bata pa po ako, ito na po talaga ‘yung dream kona maging isang performer,” BINI Gwen told host Hershey Neri in a 2021 Metro Chats conversation.

BINI Mikha, however, caught us up on what she thought about fulfilling her aspirations: “I think that it really takes time, and you have to take it little by little when you want to achieve your dreams,” the singer-dancer shared. “There’s nothing wrong with little progress because little progress is still progress. Small things matter!”

Having launched their pre-debut pop track “Da Coconut Nut” (2020) and “Born to Win” (2021) debut album, BINI has defied go-to OPM genres. With their captivating tunes “Born to Win,” “Na Na Na,” (2021) and now “Pantropiko,” and “Salamin, Salamin,” (2024), the octet is navigating fresh and fearless anthems that aim to elevate and empower Pinoy pop.

Dubbed as the “face of modern Filipinas,” BINI goes by this bold generation’s definition of a woman. In the words of BINI Aiah, they have to live up to their promise to be “modern,” “informative,” and “aware.”

Mas naging open na rin po kami sa music; mas naging vocal na po kami sa mga coaches namin, sa management,” BINI Sheena said in a 2023 interview with BRGY and MYX on the subject of evolving as P-pop entity. “Napansin naman po namin na unti-unti na po naming nahahanap ‘yung tunog ng BINI.”

Recently, BINI has also received acclaim for their milestones in music—their song “Salamin, Salamin” is now on the #1 spot of Spotify’s Top 50 - Philippines chart, while “Pantropiko” is on #3, following Maki’s “Dilaw.”

BINI is currently Spotify’s “top OPM artist with the highest daily streams,” too, and holds the title of the “first female Filipino artist to surpass 1 million daily streams.” Their team flourished as the first P-pop group to garner more than 5 million monthly listeners on the music streaming service.

Pinaghirapan talaga namin ‘to,” “Parang nagpe-pay off po lahat ng taon, ng sakripisyo namin, na nakita namin ‘yung fruit of our labor,” BINI Maloi recalled, tearing up in a recent talk with ABS-CBN News.

“Before po kami mag-release ng mga kanta, sobrang dami pong pinagdaanan ng songs namin—like ang daming flavor, ang daming iba’t ibang ingredients na pinunta namin sa songs para lang po mahanap namin [‘yung bubblegum pop na genre namin],” BINI Stacey also added.
