BLACKPINK Just Confirmed Their Collab With Selena Gomez
Mark your calendars for their new single release on August 28, 2020!
After weeks of speculation about the featured artist in BLACKPINK's new single, the K-Pop girl group has now confirmed that they collaborated with American singer Selena Gomez.
The announcement was made on social media, with an artcard that says "BLACKPINK & Selena Gomez" and reveals the date for the drop of the single. Selena posted the same announcement, captioning her post with "So SO excited to announce @BlackPinkOfficial and I have a new song coming out August 28th!"
After BLACKPINK's success with the single "How You Like That"—whose music video now has more than 400 million views on YouTube since its release last June 26—they immediately followed this up with another exciting news. The following month, on July 23, BLACKPINK (whose members are Lisa, Jisoo, Rosé, and Jennie) revealed they will release a new single this August, featuring an artist.
K-Pop lovers and fans of BLACKPINK (Blinks) alike went crazy, figuring who the featured artist could be. Theories about it being Selena were made based on how she added BLACKPINK's "Kill This Love" on her public playlist on Spotify last April, hinting that she may have done that to immerse herself in the sound of the K-Pop group and maybe leave a clue about the upcoming collaboration. Read more about the facts that convinced fans about the BLACKPINK x Selena Gomez project during this whole guessing game here.
SELPINK is now a thing, and expect it to become a trending hashtag on social media sooner than later.
The Selena collab, though still unnamed, is expected to continue BLACKPINK's momentum leading up their new album's October release. The record will be their second since 2018's BLACKPINK In Your Area.
Selena isn't the first artist from the West to collab with BLACKPINK; first there was Dua Lipa and then Lady Gaga, while California-based music festival Coachella and American talk shows The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon have featured their performances, too. BLACKPINK's full album tracklist has not been released, which means there could be other surprises waiting for Blinks (will there be more collabs?).
Aside from Selena, the names of American singers Ariana Grande and Charlie Puth popped up as the K-Pop girl group's possible collaborators.
Now that the featured artist has been confirmed, we can't wait for August 28, to hear what's sure to be a masterpiece by these incredibly talented artists.
A few days ago, BLACKPINK also marked their fourth anniversary in the music industry, a milestone that truly deserves to be celebrated with yet another epic single.
