Blake Shelton Is The Sexiest Man Alive

People magazine's most popular award, the Sexiest Man Alive, was born in 1985 when a magazine editor saw a photo of Mel Gibson and exclaimed, "Oh my god, he is the sexiest man alive!" Another editor apparently replied, "You should use that as a cover line!" Every year since, People has chosen a movie star (with the exception of two years, including this year's winner) to hold the title.

The criteria to own the famous moniker are smoldering looks and a fit body. Blake Shelton, the Sexiest Man Alive of 2017, was surprised he even made the shortlist. “Y'all must be running out of people,” he said. “Like, wow, we’re down to somebody who is somewhat symmetrical.”  People obviously didn't agree. The magazine's former managing editor Larry Hackett said in an interview, "We know [the winner] has to be a mix of someone who's fit, not too young, not too old and somebody who, frankly, maybe we haven't thought of."

Blake, a judge on The Voice and a country singer, said he tries to eat healthy and keep fit but ocassionally binges on jalapeño peppers and pickles. His most recent album, Texoma Shore, was launched early this month.

He was supposedly told by his partner Gwen Stefani, "Listen to me, you’re going to regret [it] for the rest of your life if you don’t take this gift and just live in the moment." His reaction? "I’ve been ugly my whole life.  If I can be sexy for a year, I‘m taking it!”
