It's unsurprising that most would think that fashion's most anticipated events of the year begins and ends with runway shows, models, designers, makeup, and clothes. After all, it is called New York Fashion Week, but in recent years, the event's organizers have been making sure that it serves a greater purpose other than just setting beauty and fashion trends for the year ahead.
This year, NYFW shines the spotlight on the fashion world's most influential stakeholders whose careers have given rise to crucial lessons and realizations reshaping their industry—all of whom our very own Catriona got a chance to listen to!
Dressed in a hot pink number, Catriona began her NYFW experience with the #EFrontFive panel discussion that focused on inclusivity and representation in fashion.
Speakers Catriona highlighted were Rebecca Minkoff, co-founder of the fashion label named after her, plus-size model Candice Huffine, and Teen Vogue EIC Lindsay Peoples Wagner, a woman of color. While all women are involved with fashion in very different ways, each spoke about their responsibility to use their platform to make fashion a much more fair and inclusive industry.
Topics of discussion included anything and everything from race to body issues, to women finding their rightful place—all pertinent things to learn for a woman of influence just like Catriona.
Following the talks was a lovely sit-down dining setup prepared just for the E! News panelists and Catriona, too! A menu that balanced sweet and savory was made for the special occasion, to fuel them for the day's next agenda: a runway show by Tadashi Shoji—Catriona's designer for the day—featuring all the season's prettiest looks.
We're hoping to see more of what Catriona will be up to during NYFW!
