Even Under Quarantine, Celebrities Manage Meaningful Holy Week And Easter Celebrations
In these times when faith is tested, these stars knew exactly what to do to strengthen it
One of the first things that many Filipinos thought of when Luzon's enhanced community quarantine was declared was, "How are we going to celebrate Holy Week traditions when we can't even leave the confines of our home?"
The government mandate meant that there would be no masses, no Visita Iglesia, no Stations of the Cross, no processions, no large gatherings, and certainly no Easter celebrations of any kind, religious or social—so, what now?
Well, like many of you probably did, these celebrities took the strict stay-at-home measures during the summer holiday as an opportunity to get creative. After all, expressing faith and living the values of Holy Week traditions are not limited to physical acts—it's all about the intentions and motivations one holds during this solemn time.
And so, we salute the stars who made the effort to still make the religious holiday count despite being unable to do the usual things. They spent the days with family, prayed on their own, used the time to do good deeds, or simply took a moment to express gratefulness and having hope in these trying times.

Judy Ann Santos
Safely tucked at home with her husband and fellow actor Ryan Agoncillo with their three kids, Judy Ann made it a point to give up an hour or two in her day to join the virtual celebration for Palm Sunday led by The Vatican.
Bea Alonzo
In the days leading up to Holy Week, Bea was already hard at work figuring out ways to be of service to frontliners. On Easter, that didn't change; but instead of giving masks, PPEs and other medical supplies, she put a smile on hospital workers' faces by bringing them delicious meals, some she even prepared herself. She packed pasta, rounded up milk tea, and even sent in a cupcake or two, among other things, to send to hospitals around the metro.
Dawn Zulueta
Dawn participated, albeit with a mask, in her village's Sacrament blessing. She had a little altar set up in front of her home for the tradition. She also did some flower arrangements, using Calachuchi from her garden on Good Friday.
Anne Curtis Smith
Easter is all about new beginnings and new life. Anne interpreted this from the perspective of a new mother and chose to see hope in her little one, one-month-old daughter Dahlia. She shared a second photo of her first child on Easter Sunday, which was photographed by Erwan and styled by Anne herself.
Dani Barretto
First-time mom Dani Barretto also took the mommified route to Easter and accompanied her Easter greeting with a message of gratefulness. Despite the crisis that's shaking up the country and the rest of the world, staying at home means she spend all hours of the day, every day with her family.
Andi Manzano
Andi Manzano shared an important message to moms (and dads, too) in this year's Easter weekend: "A friend said ‘love Jesus in front of your children — freely, openly, verbally, musically, ugly crying in worship, jumping on your bed praising or sitting silent with your bible as they repetitively tug at you while you say 'wait, mama’s spending time with Jesus.' Show them how you put Him first, how you fall apart in His presence when no one but them is around, how you pray and cry out to God when you need Him...when you do, you will see them do the same in their own way not just in the future but as early as now and that will be a joy that can never compare to anything."

Bianca Gonzalez
Bianca joined other Kapamilya artists in ABS-CBN's Holy Thursday Recollection. Via video conferencing, she and other personalities went on a digital retreat to get their hearts and minds focused on the true purpose and meaning of this tradition.
Iza Calzado
Having recently recovered from COVID-19, Iza expressed her gratefulness at the blessing and the realizations she gained along the way. She also introduced her followers to another COVID-19 fundraiser; she promoted Project Headshot Clinic's collaborative photo series whose proceeds will be forwarded to institutions directly affected by the crisis.
Kim Chiu
Actress Kim Chiu took the traditional path and posted photos of Holy Week symbols on her feed to remind her followers how the tradition began. Bible verses and prayers accompanied her posts for an extra note of solemnity.
Angelica Panganiban
The actress chose to spend Saturday with a group of volunteers who prepared meals for frontliners. They weren't just any other meals, either; they were tasty food packs by The Tipsy Pig!
Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo
It was their first Easter weekend as husband and wife! Sarah joined Matteo's family and participated in a bunch of family-focused activities this year. They painted eggshells together, dined together, and spent some good old selfie-taking time together.
Heart Evangelista
Heart may be away from her husband, Chiz Escudero, who's off in Sorsogon, but she's spending this time to bond with other family members and to continue aiding in COVID-19 relief efforts. Holy Week for her was all about making the most of the time at home with the people who matter to her most.
