Celebrities And Their Typhoon #UlyssesPH Rescue & Relief Efforts—Find Out How You Can Help Too!
These celebrities step up to the plate and rise to the occasion—and in whatever way you can, you can lend a helping hand as well!
Whether it's braving the flood to help with the rescue operations, organizing relief efforts, or using their social media platforms to spread awareness about the reliable channels to donate to, these celebrities were quick to respond to the call for help of those who are gravely affected by Typhoon #UlyssesPH.
Filipinos haven't even recovered yet from Super Typhoon Rolly's (international name: Goni) devastating impact after it made a landfall in Catanduanes in October 31, 2020 and barreled across the Bicol region. Then came Typhoon Ulysses (international name: Vamco), which made landfall in Quezon last November 11, 2020. The following day, as Luzon experienced the wrath of #UlyssesPH, Metro Manila wasn't spared from torrential rains and strong winds.
The typhoon was so intense it reminded residents from the flood-prone Marikina City of the nightmare that was the Tropical Storm Ondoy (international name: Ketsana) back in 2009. Jericho Rosales and his wife Kim Jones, who live in Marikina, had no hesitations about going out of their way to help their neighbors who were trapped inside their village. As there were no available boats yet at the time, the couple used their surfboards and helped the rescuers.
Back in 2009, Jericho's subdivision was also affected by Ondoy, but somehow he felt that the situation with Ulysses was worse. Based on nangyari na before tapos caught by surprise na naman tayo na ganito, I think in that sense medyo mas malala ito.” The typhoon itself may be more intense, but imagine that there's also the COVID-19 scare that makes the situation worse.

How To Help Those Affected By #UlyssesPH and #RollyPH
Marikina isn't the only area that badly needs help. On Friday, the hashtag #CagayanNeedsHelp trended on Twitter; residents cried for help as their province was slowly getting submerged in flood, worsened by Magat Dam's water release. When Filipinos were made aware of the situation in Cagayan, especially in its capital city Tuguegarao, celebrities and various groups and organizations immediately organized relief operations and donation drives.
Among them was Angel Locsin who, along with other members of AktorPH (League of Filipino Actors), personally delivered relief goods to the typhoon-affected families in Marikina. After that, AktorPH has also put the spotlight on #CagayanNeedsHelp, captioning their call for help with "Hindi pa tayo tapos." Their relief efforts are far from over, and with the platform that they have, they encourage others to help, too! "Walang maliit na tulong, lahat mahalaga. Walang pangangailangan na mas higit sa iba."
Joining Angel in the relief efforts were her fiancé Neil Arce, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Dingdong Dantes, Sunshine Dizon, Paolo Paraiso, Kim Molina, Pinky Amador, and Andoy Ranay.
Some local businesses also decided to donate 100% of their sales and profits to those affected by typhoon Ulysses. One of them is blk cosmetics which is owned by Anne Curtis-Smith. Though Anne is currently based in Australia, she makes use of her social media platforms to inform people about how they can donate, specifically through UNICEF Philippines for which she serves as National Goodwill Ambassador.
