"...Everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it," the heartbroken mom wrote

They named him Jack.

And his mom and dad will love him forever, even though they knew him for just a few hours and held him for just a few moments.

Today on Instagram, Chrissy Teigen announced the heartbreaking news. After confirming that she was expecting baby number three with husband John Legend just one month ago, she revealed that she had lost her child.

In the days leading up to the tragedy, she had briefly revealed that she'd been struggling with complications during her pregnancy. Chrissy was in fact hospitalized on Sunday night due to excessive bleeding and talked about having a "weak placenta," a condition that required her to undergo two blood transfusions.

The procedures then resulted in a blood clot that worried both herself and her doctors.

However, come Tuesday, the 34-year-old mom assured her fans that she and her baby were doing fine, hinting at no reason to worry.

It came as an absolute shock that her next social media update on Wednesday evening was to announce that her baby boy, who was around 18 weeks old, had passed away in miscarriage.

Captioning a series of black and white photos that capture the intimate moments of grief and loss that and John shared, Chrissy penned the following message:

"We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough...

We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital.  But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack.  So he will always be Jack to us.  Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever...

To our Jack - I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive.  We will always love you...Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers.

We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you...We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience.

But everyday can’t be full of sunshine.  On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it."

John has yet to publicly speak about his family's ordeal.

He and Chrissy are parents to four-year-old Luna and two-year-old Miles.
