Christi McGarry Recalls the Moment She Bonded With Chelsea Manalo

Here’s what the model-beauty queen-host has to say about the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 titleholder

Miss Universe Philippines 2024 4th Runner-Up finisher Christi McGarry knows no bounds when it comes to reaching her goals. Bagging the coveted crown was one of them, for sure, but fostering a good working relationship with her peers was another story. Despite not winning the top title, Christi was grateful for her pageant journey all along.

“I already knew. Going into it would be a 110% commitment of my time and my efforts,” she shared in an exclusive Metro.Style interview. “Going in with the expectations and actually seeing those expectations being far harder than I expected was something that I had to adapt to and yes, really put everything that I had into it.”

The comeback queen, who also holds the title of Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2015, caught us up on the friendships she developed during her Miss Universe Philippines journey. According to her, she formed a solid bond with the pageant’s delegates, making her recent Miss U PH stint a more memorable one.

“Man, I have created such really beautiful bonds with a lot of the girls—a lot of them,” she emphasized. “Kymberlee Street from Australia was one of the girls that I was really tight with. We just gravitated toward each other really easily and it was really easy with her. I think we shared a lot of personal experiences with each other.”

When asked what her relationship is like with Miss Universe Philippines 2024 Chelsea Manalo, meanwhile, Christi described the queen with all praise. She said, “Chelsea is such a beautiful, warm, refreshing, authentic soul and spirit. She’s so genuinely sweet and she just has this natural quiet warmth about her that’s undeniable.”

Christi mentioned as well that in the past, she and Chelsea knew each other since both of them modeled for esteemed fashion designer Mark Bumgarner. During their trip to Pearl Farm Beach Resort in Palawan for Miss Universe Philippines, Christi revealed she got to reflect with Chelsea on their Miss U experience, too.

“We had gone snorkeling and I briefly taught her some freediving—like a crash course in freediving, because she said she really wanted to get into it. So [it was] us connecting with nature and having that moment,” Metro Channel's Beached host recalled. “Me, Kymberlee, and Chelsea were the only ones who committed to doing a sunrise hike to the lighthouse in Palawan.”

This “special” moment of solitude, as Christi would put it, was also a time for deep reflection as they chased after the sunrise atop the hill. She also told us that they talked about their purposeful journeys and what the pageant really meant to them. “That moment? The three of us in silence. I think we’re going to be linked for life because of that sunrise as well,” she concluded.
