EXCLUSIVE: Dashing Groom! Asia's Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista Is Ready To Rock The Aisle

He lent his mellow voice to one of the soundtracks of our early 2000s, the hit ballad “The Way You Look at Me." Asia's Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista easily captivated the Filipino audience with his endearingly calm yet enthralling singing voice, matched with his handsome looks.

It was in 2003, when he competed in “Star in A Million” on ABS-CBN’s ASAP Sunday noontime musical variety show, and finished on the 3rd runner-up spot. Christian recalled, “I saw 'Star in a Million' as just another short-term stint, because sometimes I’d be one of the extras in TV commercials, for a beverage and a bubble gum brand. I saw the contest as a probable work, and not exactly the start of a career.” He didn't realize that it was an opportunity that would open so many doors for him, and eventually make him a well known artist.

Christian Joseph Morata Bautista finished BS in Landscape Architecture from the University of the Philippines. A career in music was something he didn't expect to have, but is very grateful to have had the chance to pursue. “I was always asked to sing for children’s party, or Christmas party, because I guess my family saw in me that I could sing. But growing up, during that time, kids were not really encouraged to pursue singing as your main career. So my goal was to be a working man. Professional singing only came to mind when I was trying to relax after college.”

The then 20-year-old man was inspired to pursue a career in music by the production of the play “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” by The Trumpets. He said, “It inspired me and made me realize I wanted to try musical theater. So I did. I became part of that, then 'Spolarium' by Ryan Cayabyab after wherein I became part of an ensemble. But that was where my manager spotted me and asked me to audition for 'Star in A Million.'”

Christian, who was a reluctant auditionee, sang “Ikaw ang Lahat Sa Akin” by Martin Nievera (in slippers!). “At the time, I fell in love with musical theater and was doing odd jobs like handing out brochures in the malls to put food on the table,” he shared.

After placing fourth in the competition, Warner Music Philippines signed Christian after his audition of “You Raised Me Up” by Josh Groban. He was later given the opportunity to sing a composition by American songwriters/composers Andrew Fromm and Keith Follese. The song, “The Way You Look At Me,” instantly became a hit, and has made him reach stardom status in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. His Southeast Asian fame gave way to have hit albums in Indonesia, a number of foreign tours, and eventually a role in Singaporean musical TV show, “Kitchen Musical."

And the rest, as they say, is history. Christian has been part of the industry for 15 years now, but there's certainly much more his fans can expect from him.

Christian, who is featured on the digital cover of Metro Weddings with fiancée Kat Ramnani, is now ready for the next chapter of his life: becoming a husband and, hopefully, soon after a father.

We can't wait to see this dashing groom rock the aisle with his gorgeous bride!
