Darren Criss Dedicates His 2019 Golden Globes Best Actor Award To His Filipino Mother

It's shaping up to be a great year for 31-year-old actor Darren Criss, as he won the Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television at the 76th Golden Globe Awards for his role in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story

Darren's portrayal of Andrew Cunanan, the spree killer who murdered five people including Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace at the latter's Miami Beach mansion in 1997, was critically acclaimed; it even earned him his first Best Actor award for the same category at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards last September (he's the first-ever Filipino-American actor to win an Emmy in the Primetime Lead Actor category), as well as nominations for the same role at the 2018 MTV & Movie Awards (Best Performance in a Show) and 34th Television Critics Association (Individual Achievement in Drama). Darren is also up for another Best Actor award at the upcoming 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, scheduled on January 28.

Darren attended the awarding ceremony looking dashing in a black and white floral printed Dior coat, but what really stole our hearts was his heartwarming acceptance speech.

He said, "This has been a marvelous year for representation in Hollywood, and I am so enormously proud to be a teeny tiny part of that as the son of a firecracker Filipino woman from Cebu that dreamed of coming into this country and getting to be invited to cool parties like this. Mom, I know you're watching this. I love you dearly. I dedicate this to you. This is totally awesome.”

Darren was born in February 5, 1987 to a Filipino mother (a native of Cebu) and a father of English, German, and Irish descent. His career as an actor began in 2005, and he's best known for his role as Blaine Anderson in the popular American musical comedy-drama TV series Glee.
