This is indeed the Kapamilya-Kapuso collaboration people thought would never happen. Superstar couple Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera (DongYan) hit a new life and career milestone as the pair is set to grace the big screen with Rewind, a film project by Star Cinema/ABS-CBN Films, APT Entertainment, and Agosto Dos Media.

The talented couple will star in Rewind, a film set to be directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar and written by Enrico Santos with Carmi Raymundo as the creative director. It’s a project that is years in the making and has been under negotiation and planning even before the pandemic happened. The plans were stalled when COVID-19 hit and impacted the industry.

Asked what the movie is all about, Direk Mae shared a brief but meaningful teaser and description for the highly anticipated DongYan project.“It’s a family drama with a touch of magical realism. It’s all about second chances and how far would you go to get that second chance,” she says.

For Marian, it was a dream come true to finally work with Star Cinema after hearing glowing feedback from her husband who has worked with the production outfit a couple of times. Every time Dingdong shares his great experience to her, all she could say was, “Sana balang araw.”

When the project finally took shape and received the go signal, the actress vowed to finally make it happen.“Gagawin ko iyan kahit mahirapan ako sa schedule,” Marian jests. She felt it was the right project when she read the script and was moved to tears. “Ito ’yung project na feeling ko magiging proud sa’min ’yung mga anak namin,” she shares. “Talagang tatamaan ka. Mamu-move ka sa linya at sa mga nangyayari.”

When she got the script, Marian’s mom caught her crying prompting her to ask, “Anak, may problema ka? Magsabi ka,” and she had to clarify that she was just reading the movie’s script. In fact, Marian sent a picture of her crying to Dingdong which she jokingly warned him to delete.

Dingdong—who has worked with Star Cinema for movies One More Try, She’s The One, and Seven Sundays—is excited to finally work with his wife again and for a Star Cinema project.“S’yempre bukod sa makakasama ko siya to collaborate with mahuhusay na creators, eh ang gusto namin sa bawat project na pinipili namin ay maging proud kami sa mga anak namin na ganitong klaseng pelikula at kwento ang gusto naming makarating sa mga manonood,” Dingdong beams.

Direk Mae, who helmed Dingdong’s She’s The One, is also ecstatic and has nothing but praises for the actor.“It’s always a good experience working with Dingdong. I’ve experienced working with him and parang gusto mong maulit. Now it’s not just with him but also with his lovely wife. It’s an event film, an event project. Sino’ng hihindi sa project na ito? Kaya sobrang something to look forward to,” the director says.

Rewind is set to premiere to cinemas this year.
