Dolly de Leon Wins Another Best Supporting Actress Award in Sweden
After earning a BAFTA nomination, Dolly de Leon receives Best Supporting Actress awards at the 58th Guldbagge Awards
Breakthrough Filipina actress Dolly de Leon has yet again prospered as a global film figure.
On Tuesday, she snagged another accolade at Sweden’s Guldbagge Awards, winning Best Supporting Actress. Dolly received the prize for portraying toilet manager Abigail in the black tragicomedy movie Triangle of Sadness, which also won Best Movie; Best Direction for Ruben Östlund; Best Supporting Actor for Zlatko Burić; Best Costume Design for Sophie Krunegaard; and Best Mask Design for Stefanie Gredig.
Dolly bested fellow nominees Carla Seh of Stammisar, Liv Mjönes of Tack for the Last Time, and Marika Lindström of Burn All My Letters.
Now on its 58th edition, Guldbagge Awards has been honoring invaluable contributions to Swedish cinema since 1964. Held at Cirkus in Stockholm, Sweden’s leading film awards have conferred a total of around 500 awards over the years and have been rewarding talents and productions annually in 18 different categories.
Recently, Dolly de Leon also made history for having been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 76th British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA). Her nomination in the said category puts her alongside Angela Bassett of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; Hong Chau of The Whale; Kerry Condon of The Banshees of Inisherin; Jamie Lee Curtis of Everything Everywhere All At Once; and Carey Mulligan of She Said.
Prior to clutching the Guldbagge award, Dolly de Leon also won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2022 Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards last December 2022 and Best Breakthrough Performance at the 10th Middleburg Film Festival in October.
Dolly, too, is the first-ever Filipino to have been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category at this year’s BAFTA and at the prestigious Golden Globe Awards earlier this month.
Congratulations, Dolly!
