Netflix announced the news on Twitter, ending years of intense anticipation.

Viewers of the show have been at the edge of their seats since The Crown's timeline had creeped closer and closer to the arrival of Princess D in the lives of Queen Elizabeth II and her family—an event that forever changed the British monarchy and left the world in awe of one woman's compassion and humility.

There was no way that the show's fans would settle for anyone less than perfect to play their beloved Diana.

Beauty and talent

According to Peter Morgan, Emma fits the bill not only because of her resemblance to Princess Diana, but because of the "range" and "complexity" she's able to project onscreen as well.

Rising popularity

Emma's fanbase is growing fast. She had less than a hundred followers on Instagram when the news broke, and as of this writing, she's gained over 1,500 more.

Growing resume

Though The Crown will be Emma's biggest project by far, she's worked on other shows and films like period series Grantchester, dramatized history flick Misbehaviour, and a short film called Alex's Dream.

Modeling

Aside from acting, Emma has also done a bit of modeling work in the past.

Challenge accepted

As a fan of The Crown herself, Emma knows that not all who watch it or know of it (including the British royal family itself and its closest connections) agree with how royals are interpreted. It's safe to say that the young actress has willingly taken on the responsibility of bringing Princess Diana's life to the small screen despite the many controversies surrounding it and the challenges in portraying them.

Parallelisms

Just as the life of late Princess of Wales unfolded, Emma is quickly transforming from a relatively anonymous face into an internationally recognized star. The decision to choose a new face was deliberate, in this sense.
