Enrique Gil and Jane de Leon Are Starring in a Movie Together

The two will headline this year’s MMFF horror entry “Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital”

<p>This year, <strong><em>I Am Not Big Bird </em></strong>headliner <strong><a href="https://metro.style/people/digital-covers/enrique-gil-comeback-film-i-am-not-big-bird/37535" target="_blank">Enrique Gil</a></strong> and<em><strong> Darna </strong></em>star<strong> <a href="https://metro.style/people/digital-covers/darna-jane-de-leon-on-the-cover-of-metro/33499" target="_blank">Jane De Leon</a></strong> are partnering on-screen for the first time for a thrilling <strong><a href="https://metro.style/culture/film-and-tv/first-batch-50th-mmff-entries/38601" target="_blank">Metro Manila Film Festival</a></strong> entry.</p><div><br/></div><p><em><strong>Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital</strong></em>, a horror film slated to premiere at the 50th MMFF this December 2024, is centered on a live stream broadcast taken in a haunted hospital. Considered a first in Philippine cinema, the found-footage format is produced by Enrique Gil himself. The movie was set in Taiwan’s notorious <strong>Xinglin Hospital</strong>, where scenes were filmed using only GoPros and CCTV cameras. </p><div style="text-align:center"><br/></div><div You’re not just acting, but you’re also taking footage of everything. <em>Parang naging </em>camera guy <em>ka na rin</em>,” Enrique highlighted, taking inspiration from the horror movies that used to scare him as a kid. “Growing up, Halloween was my favorite holiday. My dad would buy stuff from the US and he would decorate the whole house. It was the scariest house in our village.”</p><div><br/></div><p>Jane de Leon, meanwhile, who recently starred in the horror franchise <strong><em>Shake, Rattle, &amp; Roll Extreme</em></strong>, is just as excited as his fellow actor. According to her, shooting in the infamous hospital evoked authentic reactions from the entire cast and crew, adding a layer of intensity to the offering. “I love scary films…<em>napaka</em>-authentic <em>ng magiging</em> reactions <em>namin</em>. <em>Hindi siya </em>acting-acting,” she said.</p><div><br/></div><p>Alongside <em>Strange Frequencies</em>, four other entries were announced to be joining this Metro Manila Film Festival’s roster.
