Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano Show Support For Each Other's Upcoming Movies
The “I Am Not Big Bird” actor revealed that he and Liza Soberano are still together. And in an exclusive interview, he opened up about how supportive they've been to each other's projects
Despite the recurring rumors surrounding their relationship, Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano remained steadfast and focused on their individual projects this February. In fact, Enrique’s upcoming comedy film I Am Not Big Bird is hitting the cinemas on Valentine’s Day, marking the actor’s comeback to showbiz after a three-year hiatus.
Liza Soberano, meanwhile, has also been busy with recent press conferences in Hollywood for her movie Lisa Frankenstein, which will be released in Philippine cinemas on February 7.
In a recent exclusive interview with Metro.Style, Enrique shared that he and Liza have been truly supportive of each other. In the trailer of his new movie, Liza even shared a short quote: “Hello, Big Bird!” To which, Enrique replies, “First of all, thank you for helping us promote the movie.”
He added, “I promoted her movie as well, Lisa Frankenstein. She asked if I could do a quick video for it so it feels good that we’re supporting each other in our own films and our own projects. That’s awesome.”
When asked what Liza’s reaction was when he pursued I Am Not Big Bird, Enrique said, “She thought it was so funny! Actually, the whole time I was in Thailand, I was sending pictures until the last day of our shoot. I was sending her the set and everything and she was like, ‘Whoa, ang galing!’” Enrique is also producing this movie through his new production company, Immerse Entertainment.
“She also loves comedy films. Actually, I was the one getting her to really watch all the comedy films. We love comedy films; I love comedy films,” he added. In the same vein, as to how Liza reacted to him being “Big Bird,” he laughed. “She couldn’t believe that I took this role—you know, being Big Bird and being mistakenly like a porn star!”
Enrique revealed, too, that when Liza was filming Lisa Frankenstein, he visited her in the US. “I did see the trailer [of Lisa Frankenstein]. I mean, I was there! I went to New Orleans when she was shooting there so I visited them. I got to chat [with her] and we had lunch with Cole [Sprouse], Kathryn [Newton], Zelda [Williams].”
Apart from dining out with the cast of the Hollywood offering, Enrique and Liza got to bond with them, too, and even went to an escape room altogether. “It was really fun! They’re amazing; they’re so friendly and accommodating,” Enrique stated, looking back on their adventures.
“I’m just super happy. It’s crazy that she’s in a Hollywood film since it’s always been her dream. I totally understand her and support her. [I] love what she’s doing,” he said.
In Enrique’s latest interview with Gretchen Fullido, in response to her “Kayo pa ba?” question, the I Am Not Big Bird lead said, “Yeah, yeah! We’re happy. We’re just really busy.” He declared, “I think we just, you know, realized na in life, parang we shouldn’t always be centered around each other. Alam mo ’yun, para we can do more, grow more... we can achieve more. And then, you know, it just makes us better.”
Enrique also said that, although Liza is currently in the US, she told him she will go and support him and watch the film once she is back in the Philippines.
