EXCLUSIVE: Erich Gonzales Lives In The Moment And Gears Up For The Year Ahead
“Because when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing,” Erich Gonzales captions a photo she posted on Instagram, where she’s seen appreciating the beauty of nature during a recent trip to New Zealand.
About two weeks ago, Erich renewed her contract with ABS-CBN. “14 years and counting,” she says of this milestone. The actress may be enjoying some free time now, but she’s more than excited to level up in her career this coming year.
“I am looking forward to 2019. If everything pushes through, we will start shooting a movie early next year. They are also pitching a teleserye so let's see what happens next,” Erich shares with Metro.Style.

"I get to portray different characters, roles and persona. And by doing so, you become a story teller. When you do something you haven't done before, that's fulfilling. When you do something out of your comfort zone, that's challenging. But it doesn't stop there. You always want to outdo yourself."
Stop and smell the roses
“Slowly but surely” is how Erich describes her career now. With her recent projects achieving noteworthy results (The Blood Sisters’ highest rating was at 28.1%, Siargao was 43rd Metro Manila Film Festival’s top multi-awarded entry, We Will Not Die Tonight was among the favorites at the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2018, and The Significant Other earned 4.2M on its opening day), Erich can breathe a sigh of relief knowing her career is on an upward trajectory.
This is not to say, of course, that complacency has become part of her vocabulary. It’s just that, over the years, she has learned that there is a certain balance she needs to maintain between her work and her personal life, in order to stay driven, inspired, and motivated in both aspects.
“[Showbiz] is a never-ending learning process and experience every single day,” Erich muses. “I've learned that it is also important to have a balanced life, to have a life outside showbiz. Don't make it your world.”
Erich now focuses on the other parts of her life by feeding her mind, heart, and soul with enriching experiences gathered through traveling and spent with people who are dearest to her.
This year, she had trips to France, Scotland, Thailand, US (where she celebrated her 28th birthday in New York), New Zealand, and China, which all gave her unique memories to remember forever. Erich captioned a photo with the view of the Eiffel Tower: “A million dreams are keeping me awake”—a quote that best speaks of the versatile actress’ unrelenting passion to achieve more in life.
Happy with where her career is at, Erich is even more blissful with the state of her heart—at peace and brimming with love and gratitude.
"I just want to continue what I love doing, which is acting. I hope I would be able to do varying genres. I always say this, I'm not after the fame or popularity—yes, it's a bonus, it's a plus—but bottom line is, I just want to be an actress for as long as I can."
The scent of success
This year also marks Erich’s 10th anniversary as an Aficionado celebrity endorser. For such a partnership to stand the test of time, the relationship must have been founded on trust—and this is exactly what binds Erich to fragrance mogul Joel Cruz till this day. Starting out as an endorser just as her career was taking off, she has established herself as one of the best actresses today.
“Aficionado is family. They were there for me when I was starting out… I have nothing but good words for Sir Joel. I love working with him and his team. I’m very thankful for the 10 wonderful years with Aficionado,” Erich says.
Her own fragrance, Erich EDT by Aficionado, is consistently one of the top celebrity scents in the market. Take a sniff, and you’ll easily know why. Taking cues from aromatherapy, the fragrance is full of vitality and elegance. This combination is reinforced in the sparkling notes of citrus and floral bloom accords that give sophistication and confidence to the wearer.
“It was so easy to work with Aficionado to come up with this scent. They asked me for my input, and I told them that I want something fresh and usable everyday,” says Erich, who prefers to spray the perfume on her neck and wrist.
