Lee Do-hyun wins Best New Actor (TV)
This rookie is already one of the most in-demand young Korean stars today. He won the Best New Actor (TV) award for the K-drama "18 Again." This Baeksang is the third Best New Actor award he won for the said series, the others being from 19th Korea First Brand Awards and 7th APAN Star Awards. It was also so charming when he was called to receive his award onstage, and he initially went to the wrong side of the stage and had to run over to the other side with the spotlight following him.
Hong Kyung wins Best New Actor (Film), and delivers a funny acceptance speech
The 25-year-old actor won for the film "Innocence." And this award truly caught him by surprise, so much so he struggled to deliver his acceptance speech. He wanted to thank a lot of people, but he couldn't remember their names onstage. At one point, he wanted to thank his hairstylist but, again, he forgot the name and just blurted out: "The same person who does Song Joong Ki sunbae-nim’s hair;" the camera focused on Song Joong-ki and caught him smiling. Other more senior actors, like the "Innocence" female lead Shin Hye-sun and "Voice of Silence" star Yoo Ah-in, also found his speech amusing.
The roster of Best New Actress (Film) nominees
We found it so cute that 9-year-old child star Park So-yi was shown alongside these older, more senior actresses, vying for the Best New Actress (Film) award for her role in "Deliver Us From Evil." The award eventually went to Choi Jung-woon for "Moving On."
The power duo of Oh Jung-se and Kim Sun-young
This power duo took on the stage of the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards to present the nominees and announce the winners for Best Supporting Actor and Actress (TV), the same categories they won in last year. The best thing was these "When the Camellia Blooms" co-stars both ended up bringing home trophies from last night's event as well.
The moment Oh Jung-se announces himself as the winner
Now, this is just wow! Oh Jung-se won the Best Supporting Actor (TV) award for two consecutive years. He won for "When the Camellia Blooms" last year and, this year, he was recognized for "It's Okay to Not Be Okay." And it was such a highlight when he had to read his name and announce himself as the winner.
Oh Jung-se's acceptance speech
Here was Oh Jung-se's speech: "Thank you. I have been given the honor of receiving this precious award again. I have been receiving a lot of love, which has been making me wonder if I am worthy of receiving such love. I am a person with many faults who lacks in many ways, but I am grateful to the people who help me in the areas that I lack. People always say that the supporting actors are there to ‘help’ the main actors. The truth is, the main actors always do well, but the supporting actors can’t do anything without the main actors. I should have helped more in my role, but I ended up receiving so much more in this production. The dongsaeng that I love so much, Moon Kang Tae (Kim Soo Hyun’s character.) Just looking at his eyes made me overflow with emotions."
Kim Seon-ho wins the TikTok Popularity Award
And it was an award he truly deserved, after his popularity soared with his portrayal of Han Ji-pyeong from "Start-Up." The female winner of this award was Seo Ye-ji of "It's Okay to Not Be Okay," who couldn't go to the event for personal reasons.
The roster of Best Actor (TV) nominees
Look at that! We can imagine how tough it must have been for the judges of the Baeksang Arts Awards to choose the winner for this category, because they all did so well. Those were Kim Soo-hyun for "It's Okay to Not be Okay," Song Joong-ki for "Vincenzo," Shin Ha-kyun for "Beyond Evil," Uhm Ki-joon for "The Penthouse: War in Life," and Lee Joon-Gi for "Flower of Evil."
The roster of Best Actress (TV) nominees
This was another tough category. Seeing five of our favorite Korean actresses side by side felt amazing. The nominees were Kim So-yeon for "The Penthouse: War in Life," Kim So-hyun for "River Where the Moon Rises," Shin Hye-sun for "Mr. Queen," Uhm Ji-won for "Birthcare Center," and Seo Ye-ji for "It's Okay to Not Be Okay." Sadly, Seo Ye-ji couldn't join the event.
Yoo Ah-in wins Best Actor (Film)
This is a milestone for Yoo Ah-in, as this is his first Baeksang award. He was nominated for Best Actor (TV) for "Secret Love Affair" in 2014, Best Actor (Film) for "The Throne" in 2016, and Best Actor (Film) for "Burning" in 2019. Finally, this year, he managed to win, and it was definitely well-deserved.
Bong Joon-ho presents the Grand Prize for film
Award-winning director Bong Joon-ho of movie "Parasite" graced the event, to present the Grand Prize for film to "The Book of Fish." "Parasite" earned 12 nominations and 3 wins at last year's Baeksang. He took on the stage alongside JTBC president Hong Jeong-do.
