EXCLUSIVE: Celebrate Christmas With Fantastica’s Maymay Entrata, Edward Barber, Loisa Andalio, And Ronnie Alonte

Christmas is just a few days away and, for Filipinos, it’s an occasion that involves a lot of traditions—from gift shopping and exchange gifts to Christmas parties and family reunions. For four decades now, Christmas day itself has meant a day in the cinema for many families, supporting the local film industry by patronizing the entries at the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). For the 44th edition of the annual MMFF, there are eight movies to choose from—from rom-com to drama to horror.

One movie that’s expected to draw a big crowd is Star Cinema and Viva Films’ Fantastica, topbilled by Vice Ganda, who holds the record as the biggest star of MMFF. Vice Ganda’s action/superhero movie Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad, an entry to MMFF 2017, had a nationwide box-office total of P571 million, making it the highest-grossing local film domestically.

This time around, Vice Ganda stars in a fantasy comedy film alongside Dingdong Dantes, Richard Gutierrez, Bela Padilla, Jaclyn Jose, and Ryan Bang. This stellar lineup was made even brighter with three of the hottest love teams in the Philippines today: MayWard (Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber), DonKiss (Donny Pangilinan and Kisses Delavin), and LoiNie (Loisa Andalio and Ronnie Alonte). This will be the first time these love teams appear at the MMFF so fans can expect that much-needed dose of kilig and cheer to the holiday season.

Feeling grateful

Asked to describe how they feel about this project exactly, Maymay, Edward, Loisa, and Ronnie all agree that it is “surreal” in more ways than one; not only are they part of the biggest film festival in the country, they also got to work with some of the best actors in the industry.

Metro.Style cover stars Maymay and Edward may have starred in their own movie, Loving in Tandem, at the last quarter of 2017, but working on Fantastica gave them a different sense of fulfillment. “Fun yet challenging at the same time”—that’s how they put their feelings in words. “’Yung feeling na, totoo ba?!‘ Si  Ms. Vice kasi, lahat ng MMFF movie niya tuwing Pasko, talagang napanood naming lahat. Tapos ngayon naging parte na kami ng malaking movie niya!” Maymay enthuses. “Sobrang honored kami. Minsan natutulala kami kasi hindi kami makapaniwala.”

Despite the pressure that may come with being part of an MMFF movie and working with big stars, Loisa and Ronnie appreciate how the tone of the film is mirrored in the happy and stress-free mood behind the scenes.

Learning in progress

The love teams feel extremely happy and blessed with the opportunity given to them in this movie, moreso because they were working and learning at the same time. Edward shares, “Kay Ate Vice, natutunan namin 'yung comedy and timing. Tapos ‘yung more serious acting, kina Kuya Dingdong and Richard. Kay Ate Jaclyn, ’yung tone ng voice, it’s very important to her. We learned a lot from everyone.”

Even with the fairly short span of time they spent on the set of Fantastica, MayWard and LoiNie took home with them so many valuable lessons that they feel will keep them motivated and driven as they strive to be better actors.

Edward continues, “If you look at Ate Vice, Kuya Dingdong, Kuya Richard, just the three of them, how much experience do they have in acting, in comedy, in drama, in everything? We still have a long way to go, but ‘yun ang goal ko, dapat by the time we stop, whenever that may be, I wanna look back and see all of my achievements. Sila they’ve achieved a lot and they’re really proud of what they’ve achieved.”

Maymay, Edward, Loisa, and Ronnie are quick to say that it isn’t just them who have great takeaways from Fantastica. Come December 25 and even after the film credits have rolled, viewers will receive one of the best gifts one could ever have: that priceless feeling of having a deeper appreciation for what happiness and contentment truly mean. “Mas pipiliin [niyo] na maging masaya at maging mapayapa ang buhay,” Maymay imparts.
