From Boyband Dreams To The Silver Screen: Tony Labrusca Is Officially Being Considered To Be Liza Soberano's "Darna" Leading Man
It looks like LizQuen is taking a break for now and making room for newcomer Tony Labrusca.
But don't be upset! Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, her love team partner for five years now, are both in on the plans for Darna's final casting, even if it doesn't involve him. The teen television and film queen confirmed this herself in an interview with ABS-CBN News:
"We have our respective projects. And I think it's also good that we have our own work din para mag-grow kami, and we get to work with different actors and actresses as well,” Liza said. Tony, meanwhile, "is one of the options” for the role of her leading man in her upcoming superheroine film, according to her. Tony himself has kept mum about the subject and has neither confirmed nor denied anything.
The statement further stirs rumors fueled by a secretive photo tweeted by the film's director, Erik Matti, a few days ago. The image shows him, Liza, and other individuals involved in the film's production as well as a "mystery" man whose face was obscured by a emoji engaged in a discussion. His identity has not been revealed despite fans claiming they were sure that it was Tony.
But who is Tony, anyway? How has he managed to (temporarily) break apart one of the country's most popular love teams, especially for a project as big as Darna?
The name (or his face) may sound (or look) familiar, and if it does, it's because he was a top contender on hit TV show, Pinoy Boyband Superstar, but didn't make it to the grand finals. If that doesn't ring a bell, you may also know him from an emotional McDonald's Philippines commercial that aired a couple of years ago involving a breakup, as seen below:
Fame seems to run in Tony's family too; he's the son of model and actor Boom Labrusca (who hit gold when he appeared in 1996's Gimik), as well as singer Angel Jones. However, Tony grew up abroad with his mom and a step father, and it was only recently that he reconnected with Boom, as Pinoy Boyband Superstar required him to move back to Manila. The two are reportedly getting to know each other and have been able to bond.
But for those who pay close attention to the latest developments in Pinoy showbiz, they'll know that Tony's most recent foray in entertainment are his preparations for becoming the official on-screen partner to Pinoy Big Brother star Kisses Delavin.
Lest we forget, and perhaps most notably, Tony also starred as the trending Jake Arguelles in the recently concluded teleserye, La Luna Sangre—a move that ruffled KathNiel fans' feathers when his character was set to get cozy with Kathryn Bernardo's, and a situation that can potentially repeat itself with the LizQuen fandom now that he might replace Enrique's place in the spotlight next to Liza in Darna.
But who knows? Nothing is final, and Tony could still be fighting for his chance to be cast alongside Liza, an actress he's admitted to finding classy, kind, and beautiful inside and out. Only time will tell, but we're definitely wishing Tony good luck!
Will Tony be picked as Liza's leading man? How will LizQuen fans feel about Enrique taking a backseat? We'll have to wait and see!
