Gazini Christiana Ganados won the country's most prestigious pageant title in last night's Binibining Pilipinas 2019 grand coronation night, bursting into tears onstage when it was made official: she'll represent the Philippines at the next Miss Universe competition where she'll have the chance to bring Filipinos their fifth Miss Universe crown.

The beauty bested 39 other candidates vying for the most coveted crown of all, with reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray herself passing on the crown.

The responsibility is not to be taken lightly given Gazini's pageant-crazed kababayans; Filipinos have never failed to stand behind their queens come pageant night, the event becoming a nationwide extravaganza year after year!

With Gazini set to follow in Catriona's footsteps and hopefully produce a back-to-back win for the Philippines, here are 11 things to know about her:

Cebuana pride

Born in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, Gazini moved to and has lived in Talisay, Cebu City for most of her life.

A pageant regular

Although her participation at the Binibining Pilipinas competition propelled her to the spotlight, Gazini has actually been competing in pageants for years. She holds two other titles: Miss Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. 2016 and Miss Bohol 2017 first runner-up.

Advocacy

Gazini strongly believes in advocating for the improvement of elderly care services in the Philippines. It's a cause she's rallied for and will surely bring attention to, now that she has the power to do so.

To my nanay and tatay this is for you. Aging will always be part of one’s life, so getting old should not be greeted with fear... More than anything else, it should be embraced and celebrated. It should be seen as a phase of culmination of everything beautiful about our individual lives... An important part of my Bininining Pilipinas journey is my social cause for our SENIOR CITIZENS. Right from the start, I’ve been actively campaigning for more opportunities and programs for our elderly population. As i go around the elderly havens, I've seen the need to lobby for more facilities for them, where they can still be allowed to be productive and to pursue greater things with the help of the GOVERNMENT, their FAMILIES, and respective COMMUNITY. Aside from ensuring them with a GOOD QUALITY OF LIFE, I've learned that helping them attain a SOCIALLY ACTIVE LIFESTYLE beyond their retirement is vital to their HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT. I will never get tired to tell the whole world, that my grandparents are the one who helped my single mom in raising me. With this advocacy, I want to honor them, by doing my best in using my platform, to make their years more exciting and worth looking forward to... ?? Family ties

Part of her passion for caring for the elderly comes from her own family ties. Gazini was raised by her grandparents, and the experience helped shape her view of the world and what matters most to her.

Special awards

Pageant fanatics weren't surprised when Gazini bagged the gold given the special awards she picked up before the big announcement. Aside from being named Miss Universe Philippines, Gazini was also named Miss Photogenic and Best in Long Gown and awarded a special title from PLDT. (Cebu's very own Cary Santiago designed her winning pink number).

Anti-bashing

Throughout the competition, people took note of how Gazini vocally reminded her followers not to demean, insult, or put down her fellow candidates in any way. She believes that it's better to not say anything at all if nothing good can be said.

Degree-holder

But before Gazini set her gaze on the pageant scene, she made sure to do well in school, first. The 23-year-old graduated from the University of San Jose-Recoletos with a degree in tourism.
