The Philippine Coast Guard Recognizes Gerald Anderson's Rescue Efforts During Typhoon "Carina"
Embracing the mantra "in the service of the Filipino people," Gerald Anderson truly deserves this recognition
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) awarded actor and Star Magic artist Gerald Anderson the PCG Auxiliary Search and Rescue Medal and Ribbon, recognizing his heroic contributions to the rescue operations during the onslaught of the super typhoon Carina in Metro Manila last month.
Gerald, an auxiliary commander with the PCG, was awarded by PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, during a commendation ceremony on August 8 at the National Headquarters of the Philippine Coast Guard.
In a viral video, Gerald, who is trained in water search and rescue (WASAR), is seen helping out a family evacuate their flooded home. This video now has 3.9 million views on social media platform X.

During an interview with ABS-CBN at the event, Gerald said, "Thankful ako sa Coast Guard na they recognized 'yung efforts ko, but I share this award with other rescuers, sa other volunteers, lahat ng nag-donate para makatulong din sa iba." He also said that he hopes those who have seen the video will be inspired to help others, too, in whatever way they can.
