Heart Evangelista Learns An Important Lesson On Motherhood—After Unexpectedly Losing One Of Her Twins
This mommy-in-the-making might only be a few weeks along her nine-month journey, but she's already realized a great truth about motherhood: despite all the valleys among the peaks, all mothers must remain strong, hopeful, and grateful.
The artist and actress broke the happy news to her followers on the eve of Mother's Day: she was pregnant for the first time, and she couldn't be more overjoyed. The news was shared via an Instagram post that showed Heart with her husband, Senator Chiz Escudero, who held up a Christian Dior onesie.
With her thousands of followers eager to follow updates on this exciting milestone, no one could have expected her next post about her pregnancy to be about loss. The 33-year-old shared that she was initially expecting twins, but lost one of them in her womb.
The photo, which was a sonogram taken during Heart's first ultrasound, was accompanied by a lengthy caption detailing what had happened. Heart explained that one of the embryos was simply behind in terms of development and couldn't keep up with the other one's growth.
Although saddened by the situation, Heart and the senator call their lost twin their "angel," and the couple trusts that God will continue to be with them through all the ups and downs of pregnancy—no matter how "low" the downs might be.
During our first ultrasound we were a mixture of excitement and nervous but nothing could prepare us for what we would learn. We found out that I had a TWIN PREGNANCY. My sister has twins but I never imagined that I would be able to have twins as well. Unfortunately one of the embryos was smaller and behind in terms of development and so we lost one of the twins. Our hearts were heavy at the thought but we knew we had to focus on the good. This is the first photo of the twins where you can see the other embryo who is healthy and showing more positive signs of development. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Motherhood this early on it’s that it won’t always be sunshine and butterflies, sometimes there will be cloudy moments. But it’s these ups and downs that I know will make me a stronger Mom. We now have a little angel up there and I trust that God is with us on this beautiful journey. I have to thank my wonderful husband who really has been my partner through it all. There is no one else I would rather do this with...??(Some of these things happened weeks ago way before we announced, I’m just sharing this now.)
Ultimately, Heart has chosen to not only remain calm, but thankful about what the experience has taught her about approaching motherhood:
"If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Motherhood this early on it’s that it won’t always be sunshine and butterflies, sometimes there will be cloudy moments. But it’s these ups and downs that I know will make me a stronger Mom," she wrote.
She ended the post by recognizing her husband's role in overcoming this challenge, stating that he's been a great partner to her all throughout and is the only one she would ever want to spend this time with.
As Heart continues on her journey that's sure to be full of more moments of joy rather than disappointments, we don't doubt that she'll be the best mom she could ever be to her child.
After all, as early as now, she's living up to what her name suggests: she's got a big heart, and it's one that's full of courage, resilience, and happiness—all things that a mommy-to-be needs to be prepared for what lies ahead.
