On June 10, 2018, Kim Chiu wowed her audience at The Theater in Solaire Resort & Casino as well as her legions of fans when she stepped onstage to host the 2018 Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards alongside Piolo Pascual and Robi Domingo.

The 28-year-old "Chinita Princess" was clad in a heavily embellished rose gold gown created by Benj Leguiab, and while she looked absolutely beautiful, she was supposedly meant to stun in another number.

Weeks before the star-studded event, Kim was slated to don a regal black and white creation by internationally-famed designer John Herrera.

The creative genius—who has dressed the likes of international stars Lady Gaga, Paris Hilton, and Game of  Thrones' Laura Pradelska as well as local showbiz's Anne Curtis, Ruffa Gutierrez, Marian Rivera, Nadine Lustre, Toni Gonzaga, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, and Angel Locsin—was contacted by FAMAS' production team to sponsor (i.e.: create a gown and suits free of charge) for its three hosts.

Unfortunately, at the very last moment, a major miscommunication earned the much publicized ire of John, which promptly resulted in him backing out of the agreement. Only Piolo and Robi wore his designs at the glitzy event, while Kim walked the red carpet in another designer's gown.

So what really happened from point A to point B? Statements shared with an online entertainment news outlet reveal different sides of the story.

According to John:

On June 6, John sent his staff to Kim's residence where she would fit her gown, perhaps for the last time before finalizing all designs and measurements. Upon arriving at the actress' village, Kim's camp instructed John's staff to leave the gown at the guard house.

Confused, John's staff clarified that the gown hadn't yet been finished and still needed to be tried on. However, Kim's camp simply responded that if Kim likes the gown, she'll wear it as planned, but if she doesn't, she'll opt for another dress.

Now feeling insulted, John told his staff to pull out and refused to leave the gown at the guard house as requested. He further said he would just sell the P100,000 gown he made for her from scratch to someone who'll value it.

John apparently sent Kim and her team sketches and had received their approval beforehand, which explains why he was upset over the matter.

It was later revealed that John and Kim were not directly in touch during this time, but rather, John was coordinating with Donna Sanchez, FAMAS' producer, and Kim's stylist, Patty Yap.

According to Patty:

Kim's longtime stylist Patty Yap was put in the line of fire for the issue.

Patty, who's been by Kim's side for the past three years, defended her client to those who were quick to blame Kim's supposed bratty behavior for the situation. According to Patty, Kim had absolutely no knowledge of the goings-on as the situation was unfolding, and therefore, cannot be involved. She herself appeared to be a middleman simply caught in the crossfire.

In a statement coursed through Star Magic publicist Thess Gubi, Patty shared, "First of all, as mentioned, I did not commission him for this project. I believe he had arrangements with FAMAS about providing gowns and suits for the FAMAS hosts.

Secondly, it was absolutely okay with Kim to wear his creation, but it was John who backed out, as mentioned on his last message.

Lastly, I believe the miscommunication was with FAMAS and not with Kim’s camp as he was coordinating everything with them, including the fitting schedule, as mentioned by him and the FAMAS representative."

She ended her statement by saying that she and her team "have so much respect" for John, and that she hopes her firsthand account of the events clarifies the issue for good.

According to Kim:

The actress who has never met John in person and only learned of the growing issue when it was making its rounds online tweeted the fashion designer in an attempt to move forward.

Her words were well-received by John, who responded to Kim's tweet with his own Instagram post that asked others to support him and Kim in leaving the issue behind.
