Inka Magnaye Voices The Scarab for PH Release of "Blue Beetle"

Here's what she has to say about the amazing opportunity!

Filipina voice talent and content creator Inka Magnaye is set to play an important role in the upcoming superhero film Blue Beetle. For the Philippine release of the movie, Warner Bros. Philippines announced that Inka will be the voice of the Scarab, an ancient alien AI in the action-adventure showcase. In the original version, American singer and actress Becky G voiced the said creature.

When Inka was asked what she feels like being in a DC movie, the voiceover artist replied, “I was trying to stop myself from crying, kasi dream come true talaga siya,” she shared with Metro.Style. “When you have dreams as a kid, you don’t really think that you’ll get to make it come true, right?” she continued, still in disbelief.

“Being a part of a superhero movie—let alone an actual canon part of the DC Universe—was just one of those dreams,” Inka added, saying that she has always aspired to be a voice talent of international caliber. “Being able to reach that right now at 34, it’s so surreal and overwhelming. It feels like I want to turn back around and hold my hand as a kid and go like, ‘we’re here!’”

Starring Cobra Kai headliner Xolo Maridueña, DC Comics’ Blue Beetle tells the tale of a recent college graduate, Jaime Reyes, who comes back home with fresh dreams up his sleeves. However, an unexpected turn of events took place as he is chosen to be the symbiotic host of a foreign biotechnology called the Scarab.

Upon harnessing the powers of the historical relic, Jaime suddenly turns into an armored superhero figure who is capable of metahuman abilities like adaptive flight, increased healing, technopathy, energy absorption, and superhuman strength. His armor, which is able to reconfigure, is also equipped with weapons to withstand extreme temperature conditions, explosions, and bullets.

As to how Blue Beetle differs from the other superhero films, Inka noted: “When Jaime gets his powers—as opposed to the other superheroes who have to go through that on their own—Jaime has his entire family with him to help him carry this burden.” Inka also mentioned that it’s going to be “very relatable,” especially for Filipinos.
