It's Over! Jennifer Aniston And Justin Theroux End Their Two-Year Marriage
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux announced their split through an official statement by Aniston’s long-time publicist to the Associated Press last Thursday (US time). The two were together for seven years, two of which they were married.
The marriage was Justin’s first after previously dating hairstylist Heidi Bivens for 14 years, while it was Jennifer's second as she was previously married to actor Brad Pitt for five years.
“In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship,” the statement said.
“Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another. ”
Jennifer and Justin first met on the Hawaii set of the 2008 film Tropic Thunder. They started getting close when they worked together in the film Wanderlust in 2011.
The couple got engaged in August 2012 after more than a year of dating. They exchanged vows in a secret ceremony on August 5, 2015, just a few days before Justin’s 44th birthday. Their guests, 70 of their family members and friends, thought they were going to Justin’s birthday party in their home in Bel Air, California; little did they know they were attending the wedding of the two.
Just a week before the official announcement of their separation, the now-exes had their $21M Bel-Air home featured in the March 2018 issue of Architectural Digest. Jennifer and Justin posed for separate photo shoots at their lavish estate and had their last interview as a married couple. Jennifer gushed over her married life with Justin. "I look around at my husband and my dogs and our home, and there's nowhere else I want to be," she shared.

Although the couple shared they separated towards the end of last year, they were seen celebrating the New Year together in their annual vacation in Cabo, San Lucas in Mexico. They hosted a poolside party with close pals including Jason Bateman and his family. Jason’s Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony in July 2017 would be the last official event the two attended as a married couple.
Media reports have followed and documented their romance even from the start of their relationship. Jennifer, 49, and Justin, 46, often spent long periods of time apart from one another. It has been the normal dynamics of their relationship to be a bicoastal couple. “Jennifer loves her life in Los Angeles, and if anything, she has grown more attached to being there,” says an entertainment source. “Justin is not that comfortable or happy in Los Angeles all the time. He loves New York and always has,” a source told E! News.
Those long periods apart have taken a toll on their relationship recently, as Jennifer’s sense of independence only continued to grow in L.A., while he began to take more alone time, focusing on his craft in NYC, according to an insider. Neither could compromise on a place to settle down for good, with separate established inner circles and lifestyles in L.A. and New York City. An insider shared to E! News, "Jennifer and Justin fell in love hard and fast and yet they were never really suited to one another. He was a New York hipster that loved the alternative lifestyle and Jennifer was living a much more reclusive life when they first started to fall in love. The initial chemistry between them made it easy for them to ignore their differences and incompatibility."
They have also had a busy year as Jennifer signed on with Reese Witherspoon for a new Apple TV series and the upcoming movie Dumplin’ in Atlanta, while Justin filmed the comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me in Budapest. His other upcoming films include On the Basis of Sex and Mute.
The Friends alum recently celebrated her 49th birthday on February 11, surrounded by her close friends and reportedly without Justin around.
