Jessy Mendiola and Luis Manzano on Their Next Career Steps

Actress Jessy Mendiola returns to showbiz after a five-year hiatus and host Luis Manzano stays as a solid Kapamilya

Celebrity couple Jessy Mendiola and Luis Manzano celebrated a major milestone on July 2, 2024, as they renewed their contracts with ABS-CBN. Jessy returned to Star Magic and Luis inked his exclusivity with the network.

Back in the Kapamilya fold

During her break, Jessy embraced her new role as a mother and wife, finding contentment in her family life with Luis. However, when the opportunity to return arose, she felt it was the right time to rejoin the industry. “So, ngayon na nagkaroon ako ng opportunity to come home, sabi ko, sige tingnan natin.”

Jessy explained that her time away was a period for self-discovery and rest. “Now, I can really say na pumasok ulit ako sa industry na nasa tamang headspace,” she shared. Starting her acting career at 13, Jessy had iconic roles in shows like Maria MercedesBudoy, and The Trial

Despite her extensive experience, she admitted feeling nervous about her comeback. “It’s been a while na rin kasi...” Back in the Kapamilya fold, Jessy is eager to explore new roles, especially in action and complex characters. She expressed confidence and excitement about taking on diverse projects without hesitation.

Dream naman ni Jessy ang itutuloy ko…”

Her return was motivated by her husband’s encouragement and her desire to show their daughter, Isabella Rose or Peanut, that it’s never too late to chase dreams. “Finally, natupad ’yung dream ko na magkaroon ng family. Ngayon ’yung dream naman ni Jessy ang itutuloy ko,” she said.

Jessy even expressed her openness to her daughter’s potential showbiz career, emphasizing her support for whatever path Rosie chooses. Aside from her aspirations inspired by her mother-in-law Santos, Jessy also revealed her desire to work with Luis. “Actually, I want to work with Luis. Kasi, I’ve never worked with him,” she disclosed with enthusiasm.

She also expressed interest in exploring hosting and expanding her skills beyond acting. “And, gusto ko rin ma-try na matuto ng hosting. And, you know, how to speak more,” she shared, acknowledging the artistry she sees in hosts like Luis, particularly praising his dedication to his craft.

Luis Manzano, on the other hand, is set to host ABS-CBN’s new game show, Rainbow Rumble. Renewing his contract, Luis emphasized the importance of being a “forever Kapamilya,” appreciating the mutual trust and support between him and the network. He shared his enthusiasm for the new game show, which he described as a mix of chance, trivia, and fun questions reminiscent of classic game shows. He said, “It’s something na special para sa pamilya talaga and you get to learn something.”

And the word is already there: Kapamilya. Siguro I would like to think that at the very challenging times of ABS-CBN, I was there, nandoon ako. At the same time, noong ako ay dumaan sa napaka-challenging points ng buhay ko, hindi bumitaw o hindi nawala ang tiwala sa akin ng ABS-CBN. And that is why I’m proud to say that I am forever a Kapamilya,” he said. Luis, known for his hosting prowess, has been in the entertainment industry for more than two decades.

Potential in politics

Beyond entertainment, Luis remains open to the idea of public service, reflecting on the possibility of entering politics. He shared candidly, “Alam mo siguro three admins ago pa lang, inaantay na ako, nakakatawa in the sense na ’pag filing na or last day na ng filing, may magme-message sa akin, 'Oh andito kami ngayon. Ano oras ka dadating?' 'Ha? Bakit ano meron,? Andito, ’di ba mag-fi-file ka?' Nasa bahay lang ako, naka-sando, naka-shorts lang.”

Luis continued, emphasizing his approach to public service, “Ah yes! I’m very much open to politics. Pero ’yun nga ang gusto ko e, kasi masyado natin iniisip na pulitika ’yan. If I do run, it has to be about public service.”

Reflecting on the trust people have expressed in him for various positions, Luis humbly acknowledged, “I’ll take it as a compliment... ’yung tiwala na binibigay sa’yo ng tao. Because this is not a TV screen. Hindi ito game show. This is real life.”
