'That Thing Called Tadhana' Star JM de Guzman Is Back In The 'Biz With A Viral Video To Boot

With the end of the year comes new beginnings, and it’s what actor JM de Guzman is slowly doing—welcoming new beginnings. This December, his showbiz comeback has been made official after he posted a photo of him with the staff of Star Magic talent agency.

He took a break from show business after he admitted to taking illegal drugs on national TV back in August 2014 and went through a 15-month rehabilitation program in Self Enhancement for Life Foundation, Inc. He pleaded to his family to take him into rehab, because of his “unmanageable state.” This caused him to lose projects both on the small and big screen; this is also said to have caused his break up with then-girlfriend Jessy Mendiola.

A year after the 29-year-old was awarded with a sober achievement certificate from the facility, he’s officially substance-free for two years, and ready to face the world of showbiz again.

JM gave his fans a surprise Christmas gift a few weeks ago—a few days after he posted his mini-Star Magic reunion photo—when he made an acting debut via Acer Philippines’ short film #MalayangPasko. This heartbreaking story about “The One that Got Away,” co-starring Jennylyn Mercado, earned more than 8 million views on Facebook since its release.

More good news awaits his fans, as a new movie is also in the works under TBA productions. We’re also on high hopes we’ll see more of him next year.

For now, let’s take a look at his most memorable ‘biz moments and relive the actor a lot of people look up to:

Ang TV 2. JM has always been in the limelight since he was a kid. Do you remember him as “Butik” in this childhood favorite afternoon show?

Mula Sa Puso. The actor started making waves as a leading man in this TV remake, starring opposite Lauren Young.

Angelito: Ang Batang Ama and Ang Bagong Yugto. This was the serye that made him a household name in the industry. With loveteam partner Charee Pineda, Angelito was one of the biggest shows that aired in 2012.

Singing career. He’s released two album throughout his career–a self-titled record in 2011 and Tensionado in 2013. While he’s on showbiz break, he uploads his covers on Instagram and earlier this year, he teased fans with an original song called “Ain’t A Bad Man.”

That Thing Called Tadhana. Probably one of the most viral movies in Philippine history, the ultimate hugot movie of 2015 became the aspiration film of many. He played the character of Anthony, who met a heartbroken Mace, played by Angelica Panganiban, and went on a sojourn to Sagada to mend a broken heart.

Tandem. His last movie before taking a break, the film features two brothers who became high-profile hitmen from being robbers in tandem. JM won New Wave Best Actor for his portrayal of Rex in MMFF 2015.
