Jodi Sta. Maria was hailed as Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2022, which was held in Singapore on December 8, 2022. She is recognized for her role in the Philippine adaptation of the popular British psychological thriller television series, Doctor Foster. Titled The Broken Marriage Vow (2022), the show stars Jodi as Dr. Jill Ilustre, whose home is rocked by her husband’s extramarital affairs; Zanjoe Marudo and Sue Ramirez are her co-stars in the series.

Enamored of the prestigious prize, the award-winning actress could not seem to contain her happiness when she was heralded as the titleholder of the category, taking over nominees from other nations. “This was so unexpected,” she said in her acceptance speech. “Thank you! This is the highlight of my year.” Besting India's Sakshi Tanwar, Singapore’s Rebecca Lim, South Korea’s Kim Hye Soo, and Taiwan’s Cheryl Yang, Jodi bagged the award by a 0.7 margin.

Making it to the global stage with such a grand acknowledgment is also an honor for Jodi’s homeland, as she has become the first Filipina to have brought the country the much-coveted triumph, according to her proud talent manager and “mother” Biboy Arboleda.

Gracing the event alongside Jodi was her fellow nominee and friend Dimples Romana, who threw her a tight embrace the second she was called to the stage. Dimples was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (for Viral Scandal).

Jodi’s exemplary performance in the drama is proof that Filipino talent can truly fly, especially that The Broken Marriage Vow excelled in five other festival categories in the National section. The series was named Best Adaptation of an Existing Format with Best Editing by Rommel Malimban, Best Theme Song by Morissette, and Best Promo or Trailer, whereas Zaijian Jaranilla won Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

On stage, Jodi was shaking vehemently while her voice began to break. “Thank you, thank you! God, I give you back all the glory and praise!” she concluded.

Known for her caliber acting, Jodi Sta. Maria embarks on another project this coming Christmas as she portrays a character in the romantic comedy and Metro Manila Film Festival entry Labyu With An Accent with A-list actor Coco Martin.
