John Legend Is People’s Sexiest Man Alive 2019, And His Wife Chrissy Teigen Has The Best Reactions

It’s a truth universally-acknowledged that John Legend is one of the nicest people alive. He’s a wonderfully goofy dad to two—Luna and Miles, a supportive and loving husband to the beloved Chrissy Teigen, and an incredible talent: at age 40, he’s already one of the fifteen in the world to hold EGOT (Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and Tonys) status. This year, he’s been hailed by People magazine as the Sexiest Man Alive, succeeding Idris Elba. 

John won his first Grammy in 2006 for his album Get Lifted, before entering the public consciousness through his hit single “All of Me.” In 2017, he essayed the role of Jesus Christ in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar. These days, he can be seen collaborating with fellow musicians, such as Kelly Clarkson, and on The Voice alongside Sexiest Man Alive 2017 Blake Shelton, who congratulated his co-judge with bedazzled jorts that said “VEGOTSMA” on the back.

“I was excited, but I was a little scared at the same time because it’s a lot of pressure,” Legend told People. “Everyone’s going to be picking me apart to see if I’m sexy enough to hold this title. I’m [also] following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!”

Of course, Legend’s coronation as the Sexiest Man Alive comes with amusing commentary from Chrissy, who even changed her Twitter bio to reflect her newfound status. On The Voice, John talked about how proud Chrissy is of him. “You know, she makes fun of me almost all the time, but she hasn’t even been snarky about this,” he said. “She’s like, legit proud of me. I finally impressed my wife.”
