In a scathing and eloquently-written Instagram post, Julia Barretto finally broke her silence.
The 22-year-old actress took to social media to address and speak up about her supposed involvement in Bea Alonzo and Gerald Anderson’s breakup that had been launched into the public eye after Bea’s cryptic Instagram post two weeks ago.
Julia chose an old photo of her and Bea as the post’s first photo.
“These past weeks, my faith, my patience, and my strength were put to the test,” Julia began.
She clarified that she and her ex-boyfriend, Joshua Garcia, had broken up four months ago and that Gerald had apparently “made it clear that a third party was not the cause of their break-up.”
Julia had resisted, she said, to personally involve herself “into this mess,” but since she had been brought into it “without a choice,” she had quite a lot to say.
Addressing Bea indirectly at first, and then by name, Julia said:
“Your heartbreak should have been a private matter, but you have selfishly turned it into something of national concern.”
“You have encouraged a culture of hate by purposely liking harmless photos, putting malice into the minds of many, which resulted in the outrage of insults against me.”
“You can play victim all you want, but I refuse to be your victim,” she said, reclaiming the narrative.
“This is me setting myself free and getting my soul back,” Julia said finally.
As of writing, the Instagram post has over 67,000 likes.
The post’s comments have been limited, but a few have gone through, including comments from Dani Barretto, Julia’s sister; Xavi Panlilio, her brother-in-law; and Ella Pangilinan, a friend of Julia’s.
