Julia Barretto Says She'd Like To Play The Role Of The Mistress In "The World Of The Married"
When the opportunity comes, should this K-Drama get a Pinoy remake, the actress says she'd like to take on the challenge of bringing this character to life
The words came from Julia Barretto herself. As a fan of K-Drama The World of the Married, she looked up to one of the series' most dramatic roles—that of Yeo Da-kyung (portrayed by Han So-hee), the side lover turned wife, a.k.a. the mistress who eventually gets her way.
In an interview with MJ Felipe and Bianca Gonzalez-Intal on Cinema One's "PopCinema," the actress said that should her home network ever decide to do a remake of the massively popular drama, she'd be glad to take on the character of Yeo Da-kyung and become the show's Filipina version of its starring illicit lover.
"A World of the Married Couple, if you guys have seen that, it's one of the best in the world. I want to do something like that. But I want to be Yeo Da-kyung, the young girl. If you've seen it, you would know," Julia said.
The World of the Married first aired on VIU last March and concluded in mid-May. Recently, it has found a second wave of popularity as it was aired on the Kapamilya Channel last June 15 , allowing a wider audience to view the series. And last August 28, this current highest-rated drama in Korean cable TV history premiered on Netflix.
For Julia's biggest fans, her appreciation of the show and all things Korean pop-culture related doesn't come as a surprise. South Korea is a place close to her heart, and she's also an equally big fan of K-Pop girl group BLACKPINK. She and her mom Marjorie Barretto, in fact, also did a TV special for Metro Channel's The Crawl in South Korea.
The 23-year-old last made headlines in August when Bea Alonzo and Gerald Anderson publicly talked about their issues from last year that involved Julia. Julia was thought to be a third party in Bea and Gerald's long-term relationship and rumored to be the ultimate cause of their messy split.
