An Exclusive First Look At Karina Bautista's Old-World Glam Post-18th Birthday Shoot
She was inspired by pop culture and style icons Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe
Pinoy Big Brother alum, actress, social media darling, and vlogger Karina Bautista is turning 19 tomorrow, April 29. She won't be having any big celebration, though, because of the ongoing pandemic, and will have to make do with virtual parties and some me-time. Still, she wanted to make her birthday special somehow, and she did so by doing a photo shoot, which has noticeably become a trend today among local celebrities.
Karina dubs it as her post-18th birthday shoot, because she didn't really get to celebrate her debut last year since the beginning of the lockdowns in the Philippines coincided with that milestone in her life.
"It was a bit sad and disappointing because I really wanted my 18th birthday na talagang may celebration," Karina tells Metro.Style, recalling how she celebrated her debut. "I really wanted to dance with my father. I never experienced a prom talaga nu'ng high school so parang this was gonna be my first dance, roses and all. Ayun na nga 'yung feeling but it was the very beginning of the pandemic kasi April, but then andu'n din 'yung fear and panic at the time kasi 'di pa tayo sanay. Pero all in all naman, ang daming nag-regalo, nagpahatid na lang ng mga cupcakes nila, balloons. Nagkaroon na lang ng lives and virtual greets with my friends from the Star Hunt family and with the other supporters."
A countdown to Karina Bautista's 19th birthday started last week, with photography and video team Nice Print as well as Star Magic, Star Hunt, and Rise Artists Studio all celebrating with her by posting photos and videos from her shoot. Two layouts have so far been revealed, and we're sharing with you this exclusive first look at two more layouts Karina had. All four looks scream old-world Hollywood glam—lavish, sophisticated, feminine, and romantic all in one. They best represent Karina's coming-of-age and blossoming into a fine, young woman.
The two layouts shown in the gallery below were inspired by entertainment, pop culture, and style icons Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Karina shares with us why she chose this particular concept, "Actually, last year, ang dami ng plans but then biglang nag-lockdown tapos up until now, ganu'n pa rin. Last year kasi, I don't know, siguro a difference ng isang taon will make a great effect on your decisions. Kasi last year, ang plano ko eh parang medyo starry night 'yung effect. But then ngayon, parang sobrang minahal ko 'yung mga classic looks, 'yung mga old, that’s why nagkaroon ako ng pegs na katulad nina Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Old, classic looks."
She continues, "My dad din influenced me a lot. We used to go to this restaurant while he was here and I would see all these pictures and then the music would be so old. And I would just, like, appreciate them and ’yun, sobrang hinangaan ko rin na those were the styles back then, and their personalities, especially Marilyn Monroe and how strong she was. That’s why sila ’yung kinuha kong medyo hawig ng post-18th birthday shoot ko."
