All Of Katarina Rodriguez's Activities And Outfits For Miss World 2018 So Far

With Miss World 2018 drawing near, reigning Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez flew to China, to show that she is ready to conquer the world.

Katarina left for China on Saturday, bringing with her seven pieces of full-packed luggage, a beautiful smile, and the hopes of becoming the next Miss World. And while people tend to dress down and prefer comfortable clothes during flights, Katarina showed that a queen must know how to carry herself all the time, with or without a camera or an audience watching.

Katarina left Ninoy Aquino International Airport during the weekend wearing a chic suit ensemble in pastel pink by budding designer Naomi Ng and nude strappy heels by Jojo Bragais. She also donned a soft and glowing makeup look with her hair down for a fresh feel.

Upon arrival at Sanya, Katarina changed into a bold pink one-piece by Francis Libiran for the Miss World Arrivals. During this time, she met other candidates from other countries and settled into her room at Mangrove Tree Resort, her home for the next month as they go through Miss World shoots, preparations, and other pageant activities.

From Katarina’s social media updates, it looks like she’s having a great time meeting her fellow candidates and getting comfortable in China in time for the pageant on December 8. First on their lineup of activities is the return of the Miss World Head to Head Challenge, where each candidate must showcase their commitment to the Beauty with a Purpose project.

And speaking of Miss World’s Beauty with a Purpose project, Katarina is already an early favorite to win the Miss World 2018 title, mainly for her #ProjectBecome, for which she flew to Marawi to help rebuild and inspire hope in the war-torn city. It is, indeed, a testament to her embodiment of beauty, brains, and heart, the true goal of every pageantry, local and international.

In her most recent Instagram stories update, Katarina has also revealed her outfit for the National Costume parade, which was made, like all her other outfits, by Francis Libiran. Obviously paying homage to the indigenous communities in the Philippines, Katarina wore a body-hugging lace onesie that is reminiscent of the tribal pagbabatuk or tattoo rituals. In the Kalinga, Bontoc, and Ifugao tribes, complicated and intricate tattoos are worn by the bravest warriors and head hunters. Women who wore tattoos were seen to be beautiful and fertile.

Beadwork is also a distinct craft in indigenous communities in the country, especially down south. The T’bolis, Bagobo Tagabawas, and Manobo-Tigwahanons are just some of the tribes who practice such intricate and beautiful beadwork—which is then translated into Katarina’s skirt and necklaces.

Indeed, Francis Libiran has brought together such rich and vibrant vignettes of the Philippine indigenous community, and elevated it in such a way that Katarina is able to showcase her hard-earned figure and poise.

We can remember that Katarina joined Miss World Philippines after her gracious defeat in another pageantry, Miss Intercontinental 2017. But in a previous interview with Metro.Style, she emphasized that her main motivation for joining Miss World 2018 “would have to be my supporters and the Filipinos who expected me to join one more time, my last eligible opportunity. After all the support and love they gave me in 2017, I felt like I owe it to them to continue with pageantry and remember why I followed this path in the first place.”
