On finding confidence in her latest onscreen project without Daniel
"Ang tagal naming dalawa together, and then nag-decide kaming dalawa this year na gagawa kami ng project individually for our own growth—parehong decision namin 'yun. And then eventually, 'pag feeling namin na na-accomplish namin ito, 'yung gusto naming gawin, gagawa rin kami ng project uli together in the future, or maybe next year.
"Pero gusto namin this year na we do things individually, which is really hard, especially for me. Kasi medyo clingy ako, dependent na kasama ko s'ya for ilang years. Medyo na-cha-challenge ako ng project na 'to, because hindi ito ang comfort zone ko, bago ito sa akin lahat.
"Maraming adjustment, maraming new things, so kinakabahan ako. Pero tine-take ko s'ya as a challenge for myself. Feeling ko kung magawa ko 'to, I'll be super proud of myself."
On surpassing her initial worries about her fans
"'Di ko alam, in-expect ko na 'yung worst. But nagulat ako sa reaction ng mga tao. Pati mga Kathniel [fans], supportive sila of this project, fans of Alden. Hindi ko in-expect na ganito 'yung pagtanggap nila sa movie. Sana mag-unite sila for the movie.
"Hindi ito as Kathryn, as Alden. Para ito sa story 'pag nakita nila... Makikita nila na worth it ito lahat. Made-deliver namin nang maayos ang story."
On working with Alden for the first time via Hello, Love, Goodbye movie
"Marami kaming interaction together pero hindi talaga kami formally na-introduce. So 'yung Story Con, doon kami first time na nag-usap nang matagal. Ang gaan n'ya katrabaho, and I got more excited when I met him, because I think magtutulugnan kaming dalawa for the movie."
On preparing for her role with Star Magic's Johnny Manahan (Mr. M)
"Actually, kinausap namin [siya] with sila Olivia Lamasan for Star Cinema... Sinabi namin, maybe for the next project, we have to prepare, to be more mature konti, para iba naman ang ma-offer namin.
"Okay naman sa kanya. Ang sabi lang n'ya, pipilian kami ng magandang project individually, and then we were offered this. I said yes; it’s an OFW movie and gusto nila ipakita kung paano ngayon ang mga new OFWs compared to before. So mataas ang respeto namin sa kanila.
"They gave me time to think about it. I considered a lot of things hanggang sa I said yes. Kasi si Alden rin 'yung perfect guy for the role, and ayaw kong sayangin 'yung chance na pinayagan ako. Hindi laging mangyayari ito, [so] why not. He’s a good actor, he’s a good person. Tutulungnan niya ako; tutulungan ko s'ya. Magtutulungan kami."
On her relationship status with reel-turned-real partner Daniel Padilla
"Super okay... Nag-seven years na kami last April, and habang tumatagal, mas nala-love namin ang isa't-isa. Grabe 'yung care namin sa isa't-isa, grabe 'yung pagka-clingy namin. Kasi 'di na kami magkasama for work, so 'pag walang work, nagkikita talaga kami. Habang tumatagal, mas nala-love ko s'ya; nafi-feel ko kung gaano s'ya ka-protective sa akin. I mean, I’m very happy—we’re really okay."
On rumors about splitting up with Daniel
"May kumalat na tsismis, but I swear, wala talaga. Kung mangyari 'yun, knock on wood, in the future, sasabihin naman namin. Hindi namin itatago, pero ngayon, tinatawanan lang namin 'pag may rumor na ganu'n. Kasi hindi kami masyadong nagpo-post recently or nagsto-stories together, so akala nila ganyan. Simula ng rumor na ito kasi hindi kami nakikita together. Nagkikita kami, pero hindi nila nakikita.
"I mean, hindi ko alam kung ano'ng gagawin ko kung wala si DJ to support me. Lalo akong nagiging fragile; my god—malaking part siya. Siya ang nagpapa-balance ng kabaliwan ko, moods ko... I can’t imagine my life now without him."
"Si mama, at first, very open na siya with that. Basta, [if] they have enough savings, pakasal ka na... So growing up, that was our mindset. For me rin, nahanap ko na 'yung person; if you’re both ready financially and emotionally, why not naman. Iba nang chapter of your life.
"Ngayon, with my friends, niloloko namin sino na next. I can’t wait for that time na magshe-share kami ng stories namin na iyon. For me, it’s exciting. Si Moira [dela Torre], nag-kwento rin s'ya, masaya raw magpakasal. So 'pag ready na kami, maybe [at] 26 or 28."
On advice for the youth of her generation and staying true to herself
"Hindi naman naging madali 'yung jouney ko. Gusto kong i-leave yung mark na, if you want something, I can’t promise na magiging madali lahat. But once mangyari 'yun, magpe-pay off 'yung hard work.
"Hindi porket mahirap, hindi na s'ya for you. Maybe you just have to try again, and you’ll get it next time."
On pursuing personal growth
"Sana ma-achieve namin ni DJ 'yung personal growth. When that time comes, ready kami to have a new project together. 'Yung maturity nito, sa showbiz side, pagiging actor, hindi s'ya magiging madali. Sana magawa ko siya, itong tina-try ko this year. It’s going to be challenging."
