The Kapamilya actress’ heartwarming speech highlights Alzheimer’s disease awareness
September 21 was a big day for Asian artists as the 2023 Seoul International Drama Awards was back on the red carpet to recognize exceptional talents. The 18th edition of the annual affair gathered the greatest actors and actresses in the region at the KBS Hall in Seoul, South Korea.
Among the recipients is our very own cream-of-the-crop artist, Kathryn Bernardo, who was hailed as Outstanding Asian Star for her acting stint in the television series 2 Good 2 Be True.
In Kathryn’s acceptance speech, the A Very Good Girl star acknowledged the people behind the production. “Hi! Good evening, everybody. My name is Kathryn Bernardo and I’m a Filipina actress,” she started. “When I initially found out about this nomination and recognition for my craft by such an esteemed award-giving body, that in itself is already a win for me.”
“Being here tonight to personally receive this award along with my fellow awardees from Asia, I’m still overwhelmed and it still feels surreal,” the Kapamilya superstar continued.
“Please allow me to thank our brilliant directors behind 2 Good 2 Be True—Direk Mae Cruz-Alviar and Direk Paco Sta. Maria; our writers, headed by Ninang Mel; and to my brilliant co-actors, Mr. Daniel Padilla and Mr. Ronaldo Valdez; and to the whole team behind 2 Good 2 Be True, I’d like to share this award with all of you.”
Kathryn also talked about patients with Alzheimer’s Disease, and how the project aims to raise awareness on the condition.
According to her, she was convinced to do the show due to its unique storyline and upon learning its focus, she instantly fell in love with it. “It has always been more than just about sharing a love story with our audience, but also [about] educating people about those who struggle with it and how we can offer them the best support that they need,” she emphasized.
“This project made me appreciate our nurses and our healthcare workers, so it was really more than just another TV show for me.”
Toward the end of her address, Kathryn showed appreciation for her fans and followers from back home. “You guys are a gem, and I appreciate each and every one of you. 2 Good 2 Be True is the first-ever team-up of ABS-CBN and Netflix, and I hope we continue to produce world-class projects—not just for Filipinos, but for the whole world to see.”
Before she came to a close, Kathryn declared, too, that she is definitely grateful for all the good blessings and being a Filipina.
“I am so proud and humbled to be on this stage representing Filipino talent,” Kathryn concluded, flashing a sweet smile. Next to Belle Mariano, she is now the second Filipina to have won such feat. “This means so much to me. Again, thank you so much. And from the bottom of my heart, maraming, maraming salamat po.”
