EXCLUSIVE: "One Great Love" Sees Kim Chiu In Her Most Daring Role Yet

If you're a fan of actress Kim Chiu, you know that she's very much into decorating for the Yuletide season, and that she's putting and dressing up their family's giant Christmas tree herself. The past couple of years, her tree was up in November. Now, if you're waiting for her to share a photo of her Christmas tree for this year on Instagram, sadly, Kim is skipping this tradition due to her hectic schedule.

This Christmas is especially busy for Kim, because she stars in the movie One Great Love, which is an official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2018. The movie, under Regal Entertainment Inc., is directed by Eric Quizon and also topbilled by Dennis Trillo and JC de Vera.

Kim plays the role of Zyra Paez who has had a failed relationship with Carl Mauricio (JC). In the movie, the viewers will see Kim's character getting torn between two men, faced with a difficult decision that needs to be made: should she reconcile with Carl or take a risk in a new relationship with Ian Arcano (Dennis), a heart doctor who became her close friend and confidant?

Doing this movie was a new experience for Kim. Not only is this her first time to work with direk Eric and her leading men, it's also her first time to do a daring love scene. To add to these, Kim also says that she spent the most time reading a script for this project because this was out of her comfort zone.

On working with JC and Dennis, Kim shares, “They are great actors, super! You don't need to tell them what to do. Ako kasi, I don't believe du'n sa nag-uusap kayo before doing a scene. Parang gusto ko more natural 'pag alam niyong dalawa 'yung ginagawa niyo so you don't have to talk about it. It just happens. 'Yung ganu'n. Ganu'n 'yung nangyari sa movie na ito. Everything is really natural.”

As opposed to having that awkward feeling about working with a person for the first time, Kim says she actually felt more comfortable in doing love scenes with her co-actors in this movie. "Kasi kung friends kayo, like really friends, parang mahihiya ka talaga. But in this case, we felt that we're really professional actors. 'Yung parang 5, 4, 3, 2, action, gawin natin 'yung role and after that, wala na.

One Great Love was filmed in Tagaytay which Kim feels was an advantage that allowed them to internalize the plot more. Kim tells Metro.Style, “We shot in Tagaytay and then mahina 'yung signal and then it's only us, and the weather was really cold. So parang nai-imbibe mo na 'yung feel ng movie na malamig, hindi ka makapag-social media, you cannot text and call someone else. Kayo lang talaga nag-uusap.”

If there's anything this movie made Kim realize more about love, it's that the definition of great love is something that never fades and one that must be directed towards oneself as well.

"Kahit ilang taon na 'yung lumipas, ganu'n pa rin 'yung pagtingin mo sa kanya, nagkatuluyan man kayo o hindi...If you really love that person, willing ka to let go. You don't have to hold onto it, kasi isipin mo rin ang sarili mo. Don't push yourself to someone who doesn't love you back. Marami naman d'yan na willing ka mahalin. 'Di ba? So, sometimes you can't really end up with the person that you love so much and you have to learn to appreciate na may tao na mas mahal ka kaysa mas mahal mo siya.
